In the site it actually says not to use it on domestic 13A but yeah I get I won't be able to draw full power unless I upgrade power supply. The reality is I'll most likely be using an extension lead from one of the sockets in the house. Just to make it that bit more awkward

If you've got space on the consumer unit, add a 16A/32A RCBO, put a commando socket on it and run 4mm/6mm to wherever you need to be?

When offering the repair section up you can go with tacks an inch apart or further first and get the patch in place and fitting.
Then I buff the first tacks off and start filling in between the gaps with more tacks to complete the weld repair. Continuous beads are seldom ever possible without blowing through.

Yeah I could do, but it's then limiting me to that one plug socket. Having something that runs off 13amp makes it a lot more versatile and means I can use it elsewhere which was the plan unfortunately.

That AI response isnt quite right.
Both the MIG 180 and Blackline machines have twisty knobs for separate ampage and wire feed controls. I prefer this, I also have synergic migs and dont like them as I want to fine tune the amps and wire speed myself easily not by going through digital screens and it reverting to default every startup etc.
Those are the details I found off the rally design website, so I assume it's accurate but JOEPRO looks like he's getting good results from it shouldn't be an issue either way.

That S600 repair was showing the process. That was my MIG 180 but the welders produce virtually identical welds. They are both inverter type MIGs which are a big step forward from transformer machines in terms of repeatability and smooth welds.
For car body welding I also upgraded the Torch on my Rohr "Blackline" MIG to a 6m Binzel torch. Longer reach and high quality torch. The standard torches are typically 3 or 4m not sure.

I think it had found the blackline 200, and as you say manual controls can give more flexibility....

Thats a copper weld through primer. I can't recall the brand, but its an aerosol can and was best buy during product tests in Practical Classics Magazines. It provides additional corrosion protection and welds through like its not there at all.
If anyone is particularly interested let me know and ill find which one it is.

...there's plenty of structural stuff in a car body though....inner and outer sills are one example and must be seam welded (if a cut has sectioned the panel....although obviously the OEM process has joined the panels with spot welds)

Seam welded = fully welded seam. That's what a series of tacks produce. Its a continuous welded seam in the end result.
(Respectfully, anyone who has welded car bodywork will know what I mean. Its impossible to run full beads unless its a strong section and if so, yes absolutely do full welds. But in 90% of the time you cannot so that or would pump so much heat into the panel it'll warp severely)
If a car structure had a fully welded area then obviously fully weld it. If it had spot welds then you can re spot /plug weld as an example but not the other way around. If it was originally fully seam welded then you cannot revert to plug welds repair.
Fair enough! It just sounds like 'Don't use domestic 13A, it must have a 30A plug' is just them covering their asses / dumbing down the matter for the average reader, who will put it on 13A and then get mad that it blows fuses and they can't use the full power, and will come back to them and say the machine is faulty.
You can (almost certainly) put a 13A plug on that machine and run it to the limits of 13A. Unless they say specifically why you couldn't?
The "50 Amps minimum" issue has been discussed many times on this Forum.
That type of specification on a dataplate or in an advert simply is not true ( at least, on non-synergic welders ).
These machines are switched-mode power supplies, with the output voltage controlled by a potentiometer typically labelled 0 to 10. When set to "0", the resulting current actually is about zero. I do not know why manufacturers and Vendors erroneously reduce the apparent capabilities of their products.
I was astonished to see the price of the Sealey IMIG160. It looks like a clone of the Uptime 160, but costs two-and-a-half times as much!

My krikey, Must be getting on for 40 yr old BOC has never had a board failure, a few rectifiers maybe. But that's it in all that time.
the dogs abuse they get when stitching land rovers together is wicked , Id be betting its a triac or the likes on the board as its always just the trigger that stops working ,,, not my machine so I never look into what parts are faulty ,,, just give them a hundred quid and weld again the next day ,,, no they are not Rolls Royce , but they certainly make a good Toyota ,,, I think I had an earth lead internal connection arc out inside once too , but that was literally a ten min fix and away again .
