I guess the problem you have is you are using two unproven things, if you had seen the table working on another laptop then you'd know your issue was with the converter.
Try turning off the Wifi, I've seen an issue when connecting to machines at work where the interface trys to use the best available connection and it will try and talk via the Wifi.
Does the table have a fixed IP address that the software talks to? If so you may need to set your laptop address in the same subnet. Open a command prompt and try pinging the address.
@Pete. may have point, most modern laptops auto negotiate crossover.straight connections but it may be the convertor doesn't do that.
One way to find out would be plug the cables into hub.

I am afraid I am no use with newer flavours of windows, the latest I have is W7.
What you will most likely need to do is go into your Network and Sharing page, choose the change adapter settings, choose the USB adapter you are using and right click and properties then double click on the TCIP (v4) choose Use the following address and then type in the address the plasma control wants, likely something like 10.1.1.1 but that will be in the plasma manual, then click the subnet and it will likely autofill but 255.255.255.0 will be most likely.

I think Hood has it if you're plugging the lappy into the table you need to specify addresses. If you have an old router then you could connect both into that and it's dish out IP's automatically. If you need one in a hurry I have a router here that will do it.

The manual should give you a default up address to use, for our stuff it’s always 192.168.111.xxx obviously yours might be different. It’s easy enough to set but you’ll need to know what range to set it at...

Do you have a AP or old router that will give you a network between the wifi interface on the pc and the swiftcut pc. It should then sort out all the ip addresses automatically.

Your laptop appears to be setup correctly according to their documentation, though when you did the “ping” you just did it to your own laptop, the idea is you use the remote machine number at the end, though I didn’t see if it was mentioned what that was anywhere. There are ways of finding out what it is but that’s not really ideal if your not familiar.
