It's fully apart and having a strip down and clean and full paint now mate

Have thoroughly stripped and de greased everything ready for paint and all parts are sitting indoors in the airing cuboard so they are at a nice temp for the painting

Lots and lots of photos taken, mainly so I remember how it goes together along with the diagram in the photos

With regards to wear and tear there is literally no wear on anything at all
The lead screw and cross slide and compound screws and nuts are like new still

I've yet to tackle the stand and bed as that's not at home yet

It needs a full strip back to bare metal along with the wiring panel door and chip guard and motor guards etc

Dr Shox - as you said the gap underneath the headstock was full to the brim before I awkwardly hand cleaned it out and I will be doing the same and making a blanking panel so nothing gets in there

Got the cabinet stand and bed home now and have started on it with the wire wheel

Hopefully have it fully bare metal'd today

Sorry poor description, its the engagement block fitted to the saddle. The dowel rubs on the casting. I dont know if it had a chamfer or not

Still cheap at that. When I first started to look for one, I found a company that refurbished them. Starting at £7500+VAT for one that had been painted. Think a new one now is 20k+

Well that's the whole thing back to bare metal, I lost the light last thing so just got it all done

Just in case I ever need it I drilled and tapped the bed casting for the M16 lifting eye although the bed isn't very thick in that location so not sure I'd ever use it?

Fully cleaned and masked up ready for primer once I get time

Just using a red oxide primer no filler or sanding will be done, then maybe 2 top coats depending how it comes out with a brush finish

Base cabinet is dark drab green and chip pan and bed/head casting is going beige

Re; leadscrew

I've just noticed '4tpi' stamped on the side of my gearbox, inline with the leadscrew. Just wondering whats stamped on yours

Yeah mine is also stamped 4TPI just a random mistake that my 4TPI leadscrew was stamped with 6mm

Shame as I'd much prefer a metric machine

Over time il keep an eye out for a knackered metric machine for parts but only if there cheap

IT would be far less aggro - and very likely cheaper - do buy a new DRO and fit that. Your lathe would be transformed in it's usability too.
