What floor pan/guts are Skoda now? audi?

It's a VW product which VW, Skoda, Audi and Seat share platforms. The Fabia is built on the same platform as a Polo.

As said Skoda,or Korean,not only damn good cars,but the dealer supports is better than anything else,less of the sharp suits and plush showrooms and sales attitude.

I used to have a Suzuki S Cross, 1.6 engine and around 120 bhp. It was a comfortable ride and pretty economic - worth considering. As others have said, think about Hyundai as well. We're on our sixth- the wife has had 4 and our Tucson is my second - 3+ years old and still no problems.

Peugeot 308 1.2 130hp.
Quiet, comfortable, good-sized boot, plenty of go and very economical.
£30 a year tax too.

The VW group all use the same parts bin, even Porsche and Lamborghini use the same parts as Skoda VW Audi and Seat, I'd bet even Bentley and Bugatti use sensors and other bits from the book of common parts.

P38 RR. 4.0 petrol. It’s only a 40 mile trip so that will equate to about 2.5 gallons of luxury per trip.

that was pre VW days, when they were independant. Rather a joke of a car generally but as you say an excellent record on the RAC rally.
That was a proper rally as well not like the current events.

Well, we’ve had an interesting day looking at an over priced fabia, a fag smoke stenched Mazda 2 and a 2017 seat Ibiza 1.2. Took the Ibiza for a spin and was really impressed. Have arranged a test drive in another one for next Saturday. Thanks for all the suggestions.

A lot of difference between a small hatchback or an estate.I like my suzuki swift for my 20 mile each way commute,apart from the expected gearbox bearing no problems in 6 years.

For £9k you can get a new car, some of the Fabias will come for that money or slightly over (you will be looking at a base model though) or Dacia do some cars for less than you budget - a little basic in places but actually quite good cars that hold their value quite well or you can get a new Suzuki Swift for that budget.

Yeah I'm sure,... I've never had one of their cars but I've been happy with their motorcycles.

Reasonably popular in Oz. Asian cars are common place there where European are the exception. My bro was looking at a second car and was looking at European cars, bought a Citroen and wished he didn't. He knows nothing about cars and I mean nothing. They looked at Volvo and Skoda as well.

My wife also has a suzuki sx4.Again an under rated car, very reliable although it needs the ac compressor replaced but not needed any other repairs in 5 years.
When first buying a suzuki I went with the idea that they make good bikes so their cars must be ok.

Seat Leon (VW golf wearing a Spanish suit) 2.0D, easily gets 50 mpg round town, nearly 70mpg on motorway. Every bit as good as a VW Passat that I had, just a bit smaller.
