New car advice (diesel estate)

vag 1.6 diesels ARE terrible for injectors. My cousin deals cars and I think on average, half of the vag cars he sells have to have a full set of injectors. NOT cheap.

Had to do the injectors in my 2.0 amarok too. 100k miles.

There is no (cheap) recon option for 1.6 VAG staked injectors - we have replaced the whole sets at mileages as low as 20.000miles

I'd happily spend 5K on something with the vag 1.9tdi engine and 100k+ miles. As I said earlier I know of 3 other cars with the same engine and high mileage like mine and none of us have had any issues apart from usual things like springs breaking, suspension wear etc. One of the guys is a mechanic who's had his own garage and is now semi retired and says you mechinally wise you cant beat them.

Last car was a diesel focus at 100k and that was for the scrap heap when then dmf went and really it needed the turbo stripped/cleaned or replaced.

He also reckons most newish 2l diesels aren't great and the vag 1.6 diesels are terrible for injectors packing up.

I have an a6 1.9

with 200k on it ..
the engine is Supurb,
it went through its mot this year with a couple of advisories, one a repaired stone chip..
The inspector said it was a tidy car..

Had it 3 years..it's a solid thing..
other mates have spent 5-600 per year getting cars through mots..

Mine cost £1500..
and had had lots of work done in Poland,with bills..

Clutch and flywheel,cambelt ,water pump etc, new turbo,egr ,tensioners
Would have cost....Nearly £2k here

The b6 platform Audi’s are now suffering with steering rack failures prepare your self for an engine out to rectify it

The pd130 is a very trust worthy engine

Unless I was doing big motorway miles or long dual carriageway runs I’d go for a zetec mondeo and rag it to death

Rack on a B6 isn't engine out, just lots of swearing. Rack has it's own tunnel in the bulkhead.

Insignia are rubbish for interior build and reliability

Having had 11 of them I beg to differ!
Ok so I only had them for about 40,000 miles but they are very hard driven.
Never had a single bit of trouble with any of them.

The 12th however is the new shape and loads of sensor faults but the models from 2009 to 2018 have been bullet proof. Always the 2L cdti 160 to 170bhp engine.

I have had plenty of Audis and BMWs etc in the meantime but always try to grab the Insignia - very under rated.

No good with 225 tyres - understeers too much so go for the 245. Avoid 20" wheels though they are a nightmare on all cars.

Oh and even with very hard driving I get 38mpg - more on a run - the petrol ones give me 22mpg!

Yes it is possible for all four to die at the same time - the manufacturers of the injectors did at one time offer serve exchange units at a lower cost - but so many of these failed - they withdrew them off the market.

There is a real industry problem with this new type of stacked injector - they are failing wholesale - sadly your niece has got caught up with it.

its usually one injector that goes - but it's never worth changing one at a time, because the rest usually follow. It's just common practice to do the lot. It should cost around £1k for genuine bosch reman injectors fitted on exchange basis, plus or minus a hundred or so.

if it's something you know about, it's not the worst - but its crap for all these people spending a bit extra on "german quality" and not expecting a stupid big bill for something like a misfire.

Bit left field Toyota Avensis estate? I had a 51 plate hatchback nothing exciting about the car but it did what it said on the tin for the approximate 100000 miles that I had it my only problem apart from consumables was 2 front brake calipers.
lots used as taxis at that time so must have been generally well thought of.

I was thinking the same, know someone on their second. Honda Accord Tourer another option with a good reliability record.

My Toyota RAV4 is flawlessly reliable

I did manage to pull the exhaust of it’s rear mount a few days ago driving up a rough grass verge to let a combine come past.

Two minutes later it was all back on and running fine

My dad has one as his work car/other car (since retired now, just odd jobs), he was a self-employed electrician so it needs to carry all sorts of gubbins and get abused too. I think he got it about 2011 and although it's now very very rough looking and sounding, that D4D will NOT die. I've borrowed it a few times and it's not bad to drive. I'd reccomend one.

The problem is: These are not Bosch and there is no REMAN injectors avail. It is the dealer or TPS or nothing.

You are looking at £400 a port min. That is £1600 a set plus labour and recoding.

Sadly you can double your £1k estimate
