New 18th edition earth bonding regs?

what are the new regs exactly?
my mate just had 3 gas certificates get pulled because there is no bonding within 600mm of the pipes entry into the building.

It’s advisory on a gas cert but has to be noted down

It’s within 600mm of the meter and before first tee or where it enters the building. Lots of gas engineers fail to understand OR

The 18th edition regs don't come into force until next January, even a new build still being built can be wired to the 17th edition if it was designed before January.

they haven't altered main earth bonding. gas oil and water done in 10.omm earth wire 16mm main earth from supply to db . if water supply in plastic nothing to bond

thanks guys does it have to go to CU? the gas meter is at the rear of the property and the CU at the front! can a new earth rod be added?

Have you found any actual, significant, differences in the new regs?

Only had chance to read the osg and haven't come across anything much really apart from a 'recommendation' to consider afdd's. I'm lead to believe the big changes are coming in amendment 1.

Only had a quick look more rcds is the key.

In all honesty under the 17th pretty much everything ends up requiring one for one reason or another anyway

everything fed through rcd no freezers are allowed on a non rcd circuit as before marked dedicated all luminaires fitted to be rcd protected . radial socket circuits have to have a 1,.5mm earth wire return at the end of line back to source double sockets have to have 2 earth connections and ring earth connected one each side not both together a bity more bumph coming along but not much on domestic

Radial circuits to have a return earth? It's not a bloody radial then is it!
I've just wired mine in 4mm t&e but it WAS designed in March 2018.....

just done a computer room out in a school 2 radial circuits wired in 2.5mm on 20 amp rcbo and put the return earth in I don't make it up I just follow it

So is it within 600mm of where it enters the building on the inside of the building the gas meter is out side down stairs pipe rises up to 1st floor the copper is bonded inside why did it fail

It’s as close as possible to the point of entry. The 600mm is when its in the same place as the meter

Don't see how earth leakage could be reasonably expected for earth leakage to exceed 10mA in a domestic environment? I'd think that would apply more to an office full of computers (which are buggers for earth leakage)

It’s as close as possible to the point of entry. The 600mm is when its in the same place as the meter

I saw something about some new type of fire sensing devices too, is that right or only for certain applications?

Gave up sparking a few years ago now but occasionally have a look, usually in amazement, at what new stuff is being brought in.
