need starter gear for my 3phase mill

I have been running my milling machine on an inverter, when I bought it I think someone had ripped the internal wiring out to convert to single phase but found it was too hard so they just wired it up to the inverter, turn inverter on, mill runs, I now want to wire it up correctly and plug it into my three phase supply, the stop start buttons are still there but the wires go nowhere, does anyone have anything to help me get it running, with the original buttons if possible, first picture is the modified switch on the inverter, It has a socket on the back for a high speed head and places where switches were once mounted, not worried about reinstating any of that,

Are you keeping the inverter? If it’s there and working I can’t see why you would take it out unless it’s causing problems as it gives you speed control and soft start/stop.

Do you want to use the switches to turn on the inverter or are you wanting to remove this and fit contactors again?

Ok, that’s fine but it might be more work to reinstate the original switchgear than to simply get the inverter working correctly, and if you do this then you lose some functionality and the nice to have things you get with an inverter, like infinitely variable speed, reversing, soft start etc.

It also looks like the original has reversing switches so if you want to reinstate this then you’ll need an additional contactors and wiring.

not worried about reversing for the mill, never used soft start, will take a look at the inverter! the inverter came with the mill but was not part of it, just sat on the window sill, but the lack of easily accessible switches was dangerous, and a PITA, does anyone have a spare DOL starter, or a link to one? I will get my sparky mate to wire it up, I never got into three phase due to being frightened of it and employing staff, the sh1t that would hit the fan if I killed one of them.... now retired but no interest in frying myself!

u can use that and your original buttons. I posted the diagram there all the same . u did say u wanted to use them

That looks more like a phase converter rather than an inverter.

Do you have the details of the “inverter”?Most I’ve worked with have terminals inside for remote stop/start connections, they normally just require connecting to a switch.
Just a thought and it might be less hassle.

That’s a trans wave phase converter. Not a VFD/Inverter.

That’s 240V.

Need to see all the wiring for the mill and the contactor, if one is present.

If you run 3P+N+E you can use a DOL starter than has a 240v coil, and therefore safer voltage going through the buttons.

I don’t think I’ve ever come across a phase converter, everywhere I’ve worked has had 3 phase available.

You need two rotary switches.
A three phase contactor and overload.
Cabling.

Schneider/Telemecanique are pretty good.

I’m fairly sure that the control circuit on the single phase diagram is not compliant with UK wiring regs.
Happy to be corrected.
You should not be switching the neutral even if it is the manufactures diagram, it’s a grey area to me.
I’m not 100% sure if the manufacturers design would trump the regs or vice versa in this scenario as often manufacturers stipulations on things like maintenance intervals trump regs because they have shorter intervals.
But I feel the regs would trump the manufacturer in this scenario.
