Need a toolbox full of tools

I sometimes imagine I was better off, and when something broke, I could replace it, or get a professional to fix it.

But where's the fun in that ?

I would have the workshop to die for, if something broke I would be able to manufacture a replacement.

No experience but an opinion would be do they do other tools that fit that battery platform? If he wants to expand at some point then I suppose it makes sense to get something he can just buy naked tools for rather than start again.

I have no practical experience but I have heard good things about ryobi as a budget system.

I've a lot of ryobi kit, my cordless grinder, drill and impact take some serious abuse and seem to hold up OK.

I know it won’t be the tradesman quality gearbox and will be small batteries before anyone says, but it’ll do what he needs and he can expand it

About 6 years ago when my newish Hitachi drill crapped the bed I reluctantly replaced it with a Screwfix basic (plastic chuck) DeWalt brushless which started me on the DeWalt platform.

That basic drill has put in thousands of screws before I got the impact driver, drilled thousands of holes in masonry, steel and wood, used to mix bucket after bucket of mortar/plaster/tile adhesive, it's been left out in the rain, it's had a 3x2 concrete slab dropped on it, been dropped from significant height, used as a hammer, it looks like it's been run over by a truck.

The chuck is admittedly getting a little dicky with all the masonry dust but the internals are absolutely spot on, I can't praise it enough.

I would suggest a trip to a big car boot sale, plenty of stuff usually cheap, you could have filled the car at Rufforth Jumble yesterday as usually the cheap stuff doesn't sell.
I have slowly been filling a nice box I picked up for Winchgirl so when she flys the nest she has a tool kit

When I moved in with my Mrs W I had a rented workshop a few miles away so I bought a really cheap Argos tool kit thinking I needed something handy to have in the house for emergencies and also a clean set of tools that’s not covered in oil/grease so if I put it down on the carpet it’s not a problem. 10 years later that shameful embarrassment of a cheap tool kit is still going strong and my go to for little jobs in the house. It was a big joke in her Uni house they chipped together to buy some furniture only she had a tool kit in the car that had the correct stuff to assemble it

I picked up one of these when it was on an offer that was too good to refuse to keep inside the Range Rover as I always seemed to be going places where people needed things fixing. Rather than keep pulling tools from my main workshop it's got most things covered. Not a quality set but haven't broken anything yet.
