Need a toolbox full of tools

How does anyone get through life without a toolbox, more to the point ?

I don't see point in socket sets and spanners beyond an adjustable for household work.
I have a dozen socket sets but can't remember the last time one came in the house.

Realistically for household stuff this is more than sufficient.

Then add a drill and drill bit set or a sander depending on what they want to do to the house.

Thing is, I think he would, she would in any event, she really is her mother's daughter in every way. They have spent every spare minute there the last couple of weeks painting and doing, she has measured up for all the floor and carpets so all hope is not yet lost!

If you can wait for Lidl I have the 12v drill with removable Chuck and I don't think I have picked my 18v Makita gear up since buying it.
No use for drilling brick but great for everything else

if he’s not committed to a battery platform then I’d just get what ever mainstream drill is on offer at screwfix or a diy shed.

Dewalt are usually the best value as a kit with a couple batteries.

I know it won’t be the tradesman quality gearbox and will be small batteries before anyone says, but it’ll do what he needs and he can expand it

Edit. If you get a drill set in a case, the same people usually do a box that’ll clip to it to store the other stuff in your list. Dewalt call theirs the T Stack

even in that set there is a decent wood chisel. The snag is they will have a go so I would rather they succeed than I have to go round at 11.00pm with the gas axe to fix a sink drain problem where the fitting is as round as the pipe!

Essential for me are molegrips and a decent set of screwdrivers (or a bit holder and plenty of screwdriver / hex / socket bits https://www.screwfix.com/c/tools/screwdriver-bit-sets/cat5970008 )
3/8" socket set ?
I picked up a cheap 40-piece toolkit from B&Q (similar to post #23 above) and it was useful, just add or upgrade tools as you need to.

A lot depends on the type of work your're kitting up for ... servicing the car, woodwork, home electrics etc.
It doesn't have to be an expensive brand if it's a starter set, the halfords Pro/Advanced range is good value, sign up for their trade card and you get decent discounts in the regular sales.

I had a couple of Ferrex drills 20 quid each free delivery from Aldi.
Not dewalt or Milwaukee price or even quality but buy two with one battery and you have 3 years use of two drills good enough for a novice.

No experience but I suppose not having any drills already buying a hex set is a clever option for a multi tool.

I bough my first power tools when I was 15, used to spend pocket money on basic tools in the pound shop well before that

No experience but an opinion would be do they do other tools that fit that battery platform? If he wants to expand at some point then I suppose it makes sense to get something he can just buy naked tools for rather than start again.

I have no practical experience but I have heard good things about ryobi as a budget system.
