Yep there was an after thought on trannies with york diesels, that was a pilot start system I still have the kit somewhere, bought it from ford and didnt fit it coz found 24v to starter and regular oil changes worked perfect.

Its interesting because it means you can pollute as much as you like as long as you pay for it, hardly environmentally friendly is it.

I personally think my old jcb has well and truly paid its dues over 35+ years of work, and if you can equate some white smoke out of a machine used a few hours every few weeks, with the environmental destruction that would result in processing another 7 ton of steel + raw materials into a newer machine that might emiss less pollution afterwards for the shorter duration of its shorter lifespan & all of the economic activity that would have to happen to justify the 60k purchase, then you need to read some research into the sustainability and whole life cycle of pollution during new vehicle construction.
I'd suggest heidleburg's "from the cradle to the grave - a whole lifecycle study of the motor vehicle", however it is now very very difficult to get hold of as the overall conclusion (that a vehicle results in more pollution in manufacture and recycling than it ever will in service) wasn't what the policy makers wanted to come to, despite it being widely cherry pick quoted in green legislation circles.

It was interesting to read and when it reversed the manufacture and disposal pollution compared to in service pollution it shot many of the politicians straight up the anal canal.

Still the policy makers are using the old formula, despite conclusive proof it is totally wrong; this shows its all about someone making a profit from it and nothing to do with pollution.

scary thing is, for all the noxius crap the old pumps out it's exhaust now, for most of it's life it will have run a lot better and it's done an incredible amount of work and i know of it outliveing newer nicer machenes, on that note had it running gain this evening, tryed ether on it from the off didnt really do much, flameing rag for bit then a big dose of ether to get it fireing followed by most of a can of lemon fresh got it chugging to get the feet back actor and bucket up, trying to drive up the field to workshop wasent going very well till a helpfull telehandler came along and helped shove. looks like there is a lot of pecking to be done so motors getting done
