They're a noticeably different profile when compared to the old gears, I don't think it's possible for the stubs to be far puput enough to cause the over meshing
Twas me. I looked at making my own but could only get sheet and when I looked into it I found out why. lolIf they're not right, get back in touch with them and give them a rollicking. You don't order so-called OEM replacements to have to then fart about with them.
On a tangent, I seem to recall someone saying they should be made from sheet rather than rod, due to the laminations/layers being at right angles to each other? Looking at that grain type pattern, that has all the hallmarks of being rod they've been cut from?
Thats what I twigged when he said they snapped while turning by hand. To be honest I did not expect anyone to be so stupid to use rod for a gear though.......certainly a MYFORD name company. lol I guess thats what they rely on!I doubt very much you would be able to break the gears by hand.
The way I remember it, gears made from sheet will be a fabric based material, rather than paper, since the weave imparts more uni-directional strength to the teeth.
Those made from rod are actually less strong, since the material is akin to tree rings and thus weaker at the roots. (no pun intended).
If I have this wrong, I will in no way be upset to be corrected.
You should worry. I got a letter today from HMRC stating they require the accounts from the last 4 years relating to my ebay account and a web site I created...but dont actually sell anything on. lolNo problems, just really frustrating, didn't help that our old lady phoned today to tell me my other car , which I got dad to take for a cambelt is now going to cost me another couple of hundred quid
One of the gears is the wrong profile. All you have to do now is find out which ones Steel or New Composites. It's hard to put it precisely into words so bear with me. The tip of the new gears is much flatter than the old, even factoring wear, also, the profile from the trough to the peak is not straight, it bellies out, if you imagine filling a triangle with air , the sides would bow out, that's somewhere similar, and these rounded sides are not allowing the side of the tooth to clear that of the stub gear and allow it to turn
Update! I called myford and they have told me they're sending the entire batch back as faulty and refunding me on the ones I bought, still leaves me without a pair of gears tho
cant u buy them in cast they may be sacrificial but i havent got them on my ml7 . if u run the tool in to the chuck or take a massive cut and it digs in thats just been sloppy and careless . ive come close but never done itUpdate! I called myford and they have told me they're sending the entire batch back as faulty and refunding me on the ones I bought, still leaves me without a pair of gears tho
I've not seen them in cast, imagine it would be a custom order. As an aside is there anyone round Manchester area that has the gear for cutting the teeth on the ones I have properly?
