My woodburning stove

My latest thinking on a cost-effective flue is to try flexible aluminium ducting. These stoves may get hot but I doubt if they get hot enough to melt aluminium, even if the ducting is designed only for cooker hoods and tumble dryers.

Pound to a penny it melts try throwing a coke can into the fire and see what happens the alu flex is not very thick if you are going to use flexy make sure it is stainless and keep it well away from any combustable material. p.s. if you are burning wood you will never be away from that stove.

the snooper and Sam - thanks for the warnings. You may have saved me about £12 spent on thin aluminium ducting. I'll carry out some experiments with coke cans or a short section of ducting, to see how far from the fire it needs to be, to stand any chance. I previously thought it was only oil or coke, mixed with an air blast that would produce red heat.

go to the local scrap yard and find some used steel tubing thats all i did

Here's one of the hinges, with temporary fixings. The hinges are only cheap but seem to have survived one test burn. The zinc coating burned off. I read other comments that cheap hinges tend to fail on these stoves. How is that?

I will bet good money that those hinges will not last
You need to mount heavy duty hinges outboard of the cylinder, the further away the better
I went thru' 3 different hinges before my Stove worked OK
Each time they would seize up solid from the heat after a few days.
