Hi, ive been a long time lurker on here, its incredible how much usefull advice and tips ive picked up, ive just found my intro thread and thats from 2008, so as not to dig it up, i thought id sort of re-introduce myself and tell you a little about my car.
firstly a bit about me, by day (and the odd weekend) full time electronics and electronic systems design engineer, by night and weekends full time tinkerer.
i have quite alot of equipment at my disposal and like taking advantage of the fact. in brief i have a harrison metal work lathe, murex trades mig, band saw, pedestal drill (also doubles as a vertical miller), the usual cutting taping drilling grinding tools plus loads more which ive forgot.
ive been on the road with my car for the last just over 4 years (since passing my test) and since then its become a sort of long term project / learning and development tool.
i started out with all the 'boy racer' mods, but soon saw sence and ditched them all, and went in hunt for some real power. Before i tell you what car it is and you all start rolling around on the floor laughing and gasping why has he put so much money in that car, i havent put hardly any money into it, all the things i do and make are all custom by myself with budget and free in mind, i havent added things up, but id hazard a guess that its in the low hundreds, which compered to a set of alloys at £400 up isnt bad.
My car is a 1991 nissan micra which started life as a lady owned 1 liter.
the pics below are in no real order but will give some insite into what i get up to, also these are by no means all the things ive done to it, as alot of the things ive done i havent documented or i havent uploaded any pics for them.
couple of the car in question
had a spare set of steel wheels powder coated
after about 10 minutes i got bored of the 1 litre ma10 engine, so th hunt started for the direct replacement 1.2litre ma12, soon enough i had one in and running this was some 3 years back now.
still not happy i decided to try my hand at a littel fab work
great improvement, however i still had the mig bug and a set of honda cbr600 carbs so this was born
fantastic, now were getting somewhere.
having just got a new interchangable tip lathe tool i thought id try it out
3.25kg from the standard 6+kg not bad.
after a comming together with another car i sold on the exhaust manifold and the bike carbs as i thought i was getting rid of the car, but when it came to selling / scrapping the car, i just couldnt do it so decided to repair it, new bonnet and headlights and straighten the front end later its back on the road, but with the stock ma12 again.
so once again the mig was dusted off
got to get back to work, ill finnish off later
