A car at 15, what next.
You'll have plenty of time to sort it out before you have a licence.
A mini as a first car is an excellent choice, if you keeps it that is, once sorted out a bit it'll be worth a whole lot more, and you'll be able to get an xbox and an astra for what its worth.
Resto work will be good experience for you, your employability will improve for just about any line of work, whenever I've been involved with looking for apprentices their background is important, and any kind of interest that aquires skill or dedication often makes a good employee.
Thanks, I've been saving for a few years now. I don't have a job so it's just birthday and Christmas money . I love restoring old stuff. I help my dad restore his classic British bikes.
I was thinking this but the mirrors aren't that low. The mirrors are above and to the left of the door cards. There is no way of getting at it from the behind.
Good point it may be . It was raining so I was rushing a bit :P . I've looked at the rivnuts and I think they would not be able to go through the door because it would get in the way of the window?
I think it's an extended stud with another nut underneath holding the head down. Our old Mini had rivnuts holding the mirror and they cleared the window glass.
I don't think that fitting kit will help you with those mirrors Ollie.
Look at the rubber gasket that came with your mirrors, and compare it to the shape of the black mounting thing in that kit - completely different, see?
I think rivnuts will be your best bet if you have the room for them. Take out one of the self tapping screws that hold the current mirror on, and poke a bit of stiff wire in the hole to act as a sort of a depth gauge (make sure the window is closed!). This will give you some idea of the space that you have available before you get mixed up with the window glass.
Post up on here how deep the space is, and I'm sure that someone with some rivnuts will tell you if it will work or not!
Rivnuts will clear the glass; that's what I did on our Clubman Estate. They're just the ticket and if you buy one of the kits, you'll be able to replace all the hideous self tappers throughout the car with lovely jubbly rivnuts
It would be a shame to sell them on Ollie - they really look the part! You just need to work out a way to fit them. Trust me, this won't be the last brain teaser you come across! Think about the rivnut idea. That's probably the way to go!
