good work - really enjoy seeing other peoples ideas for home made panels
hi all, did some more this week. drivers rear inner wheelarch which i repaired years ago but wanted a better result now, just making unnecessary work for myself really
so old repairs cut out

got a pic from the net to try and copy the swages could only find a passenger side but the swages are the same
doesn't have to be exact as it will be stonechiped, getting there

Impressive fabrication with the swage lines and the welding. It looks on those pics like you are doing shorts runs of weld, as opposed to the tacking technique of stop/start. How are you managing that on car body metal? Even on the lowest settings I seem to blow through, even tacking.

hi everybody. can't believe it's been so long since i last updated this thread. so here goes! lots of silly little repairs done at the back end then pulled the axle off
then welds ground down, sprayed with jenolite to remove surface rust then bondaprimer and broke out the gravitex
this is just the first mist coat so will be a bit patchy
i chose grey because i'll be painting it body colour after the top is done
and gave the wheelarch a quick coat just to use up the last of the stonechip
then onto the passenger rear door i could have got a replacement but this wasn't too bad just gone at the bottom so cut out the bad bit
the outer skin wasn't too bad
so new piece of frame made
trimmed for butt welding and tacked in
then fully welded
then with nothing better to do i tried to get the wing to fit a bit better as when i first fitted it 5 years ago i had to modify it as the A pillar was just plated up which thrown the fitment out plus it's a pattern wing and wasn't very good to begin with
was a bit tight against the bonnet towards the scuttle but considering the repairs the car has had everything could be out a bit but lines up ok now
rear edge not too bad now
wing off again
bonnet off, manifolds off, propshaft off, gearbox drained (unintentional)
jacked up high, axle stands under chassis and front subframe out
followed by engine/box
better access for the last few welding jobs like this patch on the chassis which seemed ok with the engine in place but i might as well try and do better while i have room to work
and thats where i am now with it i'll try and not leave it so long next time
