Read Slocum's other book ' The voyage of the Liberdade' gives an interesting look at life back then.I read 'Sailing Around the World' by Captain Joshua Slocum in his boat. He had a wooden hull that he restored or rather replaced just about every timber on it. I'm sure it was that book, the boat was called 'Spray' I think (sorry if I've got my books mixed up but it's years ago since I read that one). Whilst I'm going off thread there is a book about crossing the North Sea to Norway in a Wayfairer sailing dinghy - crazy stuff. Apologies for being off thread here.

Frank Dye was the guy who sailed a Wayfairer to Iceland. Real character building stuff...
Google Shane Acton and ' Shrimpy' his book about sailing a plywood 17ft boat around the world is free online. Learned everything on the way...

Now back to the thread, have you bought it yet?
I've no idea about the mechanical stuff, the advert says it has "Radar, Chart Plotter, Radio" but to be honest all that electronic stuff is seriously ancient and not worth anything, if it works then it's a bonus until it goes wrong. Personally I'd rip out all the old electronics and flog it on ebay, there's always someone daft enough to buy ancient/obsolete boat kit. That old radar will be on borrowed time assuming it still works.Oh, sorry for the hijack and BUY THAT FISHING BOAT it looks beautiful and something of a bargain I reckon. The engine. gearbox and generator have to be worth the £10k.
and that is why most people dont trust certain sellers on ebay, cause they are rip off merchants.I've no idea about the mechanical stuff, the advert says it has "Radar, Chart Plotter, Radio" but to be honest all that electronic stuff is seriously ancient and not worth anything, if it works then it's a bonus until it goes wrong. Good to see you back at itBit of an update ad to show interest is not lost.
Got home tonight and some of the canopy has arrived. I used Seascrew for the bits for the frame. This is the first in a while i have bought something for the boat and feel good, although the price and what i am looking does not not look much for the money, hey but thats project boating
I will be ordering the Top Gun this week with all the rest of the fittings from Point north and Kyospruce.
So top frame hoop is 25mm OD and that slides nicely ( 1.2mm wall ) over the lower frame legs of 22mmOD with a a pair of 22mm tube clamps to slide up the top hoop into position.
I have ordered a pair of preformed mandrel bent 25mm OD tubes and should be here this week. I will weld these up for the hoop corners.

You're still doing this quicker than I'm managing with my pickup, it's only been off the road for about 3 years now, Hopefully I'll get some more patching done on the tub over the xmas break but I'm struggling with the motivation to go and work in a cold garage.Me to, got a bit down with this and that and lost motivation but gave myself a kick up the backside and here we go

Just read this from the start only spoilt by photo bucket but GREAT read
Wow, that Read's Sailmaker was a steal. I use an old US domestic machine for sails, but would really like one like that. Give me a buzz when you are finished and it is going spare
Nice SS bits too.
