My 1st welds.

Well when I say 1st I'm not 100% accurate.
I have played in the past (less then 2/3" overall weld) but without a peddle or gas lens so with these ot felt completely different as far as I can remember.

Once the machine was set up this was my 1st ever proper weld.
3mm stainless, 1.6 tungsten, about 80amps IIRC and about 8lpm. No filler.

Then I played about a bit more with a few settings and here's a pic of them all.

Sorry for bad pics as they were done on my phone.
No filler for any of the runs just to get a feel for it.

Ordered a sheet of 3mm mild for an earth pad to make it easier too.

You can see the brackets for which in the back ground of this pic of my over engineered wall brackets to hold my steel stock.

Bit of stainless pipe practice.

Throw it in the vice to test the welds.

No cracks
Tomorrow I will continue playing and may try and finish up the Recaro welding chair brackets and get that bolted up to clear some space.

I know the pics aren't brill but thought I'd keep you all up to date with my antics in the garage.

Looks essentially all good to me, Keep the arc length consistent and your travel speed and angle. Welds look clean enough however using filler is a whole different ballgame!

Cheers man, That was the main problem I was having on the pipe. Trying to maintain speed/arc gap/angle whilst making progress around the pipe but I'm sure that will come with practice.

Yeah ,If you get the stick out right then you can concentrate on the arc gap and the andle will sort itself out if you have a bigger ceramic on there and push it along the surface pointing forwards if you get me. The smaller the radius you are welding round the harder it is

If your just fusing. You can hold the tube and rotate it with one hand so it is possible to go all the way around in one go. Also you need to set a down slope or blip the tourch to prevent the pin hole. But you do need to start getting so wire in there.
