I bought one this week. The old one was a cheapo and surprisingly accurate, but it failed after 15 years and started registering 20% more volts than were really there. Went for another cheapo from Amazon , but £20 rather than £10 in the hope of getting 5 years out of it.

Might have broken my old meter, any recommendations? usual volts/amp/resistance ideally something that will measure up to 10 amp and with a null setting I dont want to pay fluke money

Get yersel' a decent set of silicone leads to go with it, whatever it is.
As for the meter itself, I bought a Proster VC99 a couple of years ago and it's been fine so far.
Also got a Proster clamp meter, which is slightly superfluous, but why not.

I've got a robin digital multimeter probably bought it in the late 1980s possibly early 1990s it's so well used that when it stopped working the selection switch had worn through the PCB. 10 minutes with a soldering iron had it working again.

These are what I currently use.

The little cheap Zorin is pocket sized, auto ranging and has a big bright screen. But I only trust it for low voltage, I don't believe the CAT rating at all !

So, the fluke comes out for higher voltages. Had it for years, never had any problems with it, tends to get used when I'm working with mains voltages.

Finally, the Scopemeter is actually a Fluke, badged as a Philips. It runs on batteries, so it's completely isolated from the mains supply, great for poking around in switch mode power supplies. It has an optically isolated serial port, so I can download screen captures to my pc or use it as a data-logger.

I've had better luck with Uni-T than Brymen. I'll never buy a Brymen again. I now buy Hioki when possible.

The first one the screen died but I don't know the history of it.

The second one I bought new from EEVblog and the screen played up. I reseated it and it worked for a while. The batteries then leaked which I can't blame it for. I left it for a long time until I discovered that new battery holders were available. Once I replaced the battery holder ($31) it then had an unrelated fault which was recently discovered in that model. The probe terminals go conductive so the meter thinks leads are always installed in the wrong positions.

Not exactly a multi-meter, but there could be a lot of mileage in using a little LCD voltmeter for battery and charging checking on motorcycle and car work.....
