a rear toolpost for parting is a lot more rigid as it sits on the saddle not the top tool post .using it the lead screw is under tension when cutting not compression as in forward cutting . its less prone to dig ins and the job climbing over the tool out the latheSo that's what it's for. I'll have to bolt it back on now and try it.
