I'll chime in for a point of view nearly brought a rebel it was nearly finalised the only selling point of the rebel is it would run a 6010. As I practice lots of pipe and have tones of 6010 it would of been probably a wise choice after long discussion with @bR39Da and @HughF I tested his paton out and was amazed with the mig and stick functions altho it won't run a 6010 for the price I paid for the paton I can't complain and if my mig box goes bang i still can stick weld don't need to lug a box with wire with me if I need to be welding in a remote area and i have ran it off some terrible power supplies and it still has stick welded fine
Also how much 6010 down hand welding does any one do unless your a pipe welder

I hadn't even heard of a 6010 untill I read the Oxford eBay listing.....so doubtful any.

Like all these things the more you read / information the more choices you have.

I'm guessing this isn't the same as over head welding?

was also thinking about the kemppi evo mig and the arc / tig welder as separate machines....

I have the Kemppi mig and it's a thing of beauty...never had any issues with it....wire feed is silky smooth. It was bloomin expensive....but when I got it out the box I knew I'd made the right choice....it's so well made. Feels like a proper production item....unlike my migmate which felt like a diy effort in comparison!

I do a bit of stainless and a bit of mig brazing too with it....the pre programmed settings are pretty much spot on so not much adjustment needed.

I currently have a mighty mig of the same calibre I believe.

I have considered the kemppi but ideally.wanted a machine which also does stick.

I think on the tig front I have come to the conclusion that a multi process machine isn't the answer .

I'm also looing for a stick/Tig machine at the moment too....I really like the Kemppi Tig...but £3k is just way over my budget (hobby use).

AC/DC Tig machines aren't cheap!

Yes this is what I have found also, and in the same situation. Although after thinking about this subject for a while, I had initially thought I was going to go for the ESAB multiprocess with ACDC tig, its not available yet for one, and tbh it seems the general consensus is you're better off with a dedicated machine for the ACDC stuff.

So my thoughts now are I will go for a mig/stick welder then at a later date go for a dedicated acdc tig.

Hi Ian....that's the conclusion I came to as well....except the my Tig will also be the stick.

Most Tig machines I've seen seem to do stick but alot of Mig machines don't.

Here is my Shortlist:

Fonius Transsteel 2200
Kemppi Mini arc mig evo 200
RTECH Pro Mig 250
ESAB Rebel 215/235

I will be using this primarily as a MIG/STICK welder the DC Tig is a bonus, but I have come to the conclusion from starting this post that probably my best bet is to go for a dedicated AC/DC TIG machine at a later date.

I'm not even sure I'll ever get around to the AC stuff so maybe I should go for a DC tig option.

Just had a quick look....that looks like a nice setup. Looks like it does AC TIG too?....in which case the only thing it's missing is a beer fridge on the back .

If you go for it please let us know how you get on...I'm interested in getting into TIG too but limited space for stuff means I've been putting off buying yet another tool.

From all the info I have seen this is DC TIG only.....

That's a bit of a shame....the AC is required for aluminium TIG isn't it?

Kemppi do a MinarcTig but I think it only does DC TIG and stick....if it also did AC TIG I'd probably have gone for that one.

My worry with the multi process stuff is that it'll have some compromises vs a dedicated machine. Also having 2 machines is handy if one is out of action!

In my opinion ya better off with separate machines. I have an oerlikon 200mp .although an ok machine and good build but when one function goes down then the whole unit is out of action

I have to confess I don't actually know what the implications of this are.....

AC provides the cleaning on aluminium TIG, although it is possible with DC.

Pure Helium increases the pool temperature too, allowing the welding of thicker material.

I shall be trying all of the above, once I can get further than “just through the door” of my workshop!
