Wonder how many lathe tailstock tapers actually have a socket for a tang.
All of them*. All that is with the exception of the Chinese "hobby" lathes, I have seen around the Web several modifications to the Chinese Lathe tailstock barrels to hold the chuck at the tang to prevent it from spinning if the drill bit bites. The snag with Morse Taper tooling without a tang in a lathe tailstock is that ejection often involves the judicious use of the copper mallet! It is true, Arceurotrade sell threaded tangs you can screw into some tooling to make it easier to eject but check the thread first as they are not all the same.
*I think some American lathes are made or have been made without.
