Hmmm... I do get out there from time to time, I will have to remember to do some lathe-spotting when visiting suppliers.India. That's where all the Langs went to.
Slovakia and Slovenia too...Poland and the Czech Republic are going to be the new industrial powers in Europe as far as I can see, forget Germany, they have lost the plot. The Czech Republic were very canny in staying out of the Euro and just joining Europe and the Shengen zone.
I knew Slovenia had done OK for itself simply as a result of not getting involved when the rest of the former Yugoslavian states set out to violently murder each other over religion... But I hadn't initially realised quite how well they had done.
Slovenia is now the most prosperous Slavic speaking nation (doing better than Poland), has the lowest level of income inequality in the EU, and the fastest growing economy in the EU.
It's all based on making cars parts, machines, guns, and chemicals... But crucially (and dramatically different to the UK or Germany) they have the lowest level of foreign direct investment of any EU country, so whatever money they make selling stuff, stays in Slovenia.
