Video of moving a big colchester into a home workshop, the mini crane that appears at around 3:30 in is pure genius, I haven't seen one like that before

That crane was awesome, I wonder how it compares to using a forklift.

I guess nearly as good however the reach of that thing looked better, plus better suited for dangling stuff. Your supposed to pick Colchesters up by a lifting ring in the bed not underneath.

I shifted my Chipmaster up 5 steps with a very large ramp and the lathe strapped to a pallet truck lengthways to get through a door -- definitely not as per the manual!

Dearly Beloved bought a couple of things for the school fete, years ago. Of course we went, and she came home with a couple of bags of tat, as usual, including.....need I finish that statement.

Agreed, I especially didn't like the chain around the chuck

The bed has a 7/8-9 threaded hole for an eye bolt, your supposed to use a large plate between the ways with a hole in it and the eye bolt tightens down against it.

How do you get into the workshop? I always try and take that into consideration when placing things, can be awkward getting in large awkward items if a machine is in the way!

The 4 foot opening at the top left of the drawing is a sliding doors

Totally agree same with Harrisons the eye bolt costs about £4.
Point being has the damage already been done to expensive spindle bearings, couriers don't give a monkey job done.

There's another way to lift a Colchester Student if you're using an engine crane or similar hoist but don't have the specified eyebolt: a 4 foot sling wrapped around the bed foot below the headstock, then the ends passed under the 'arch' of the bed and up through the middle, just next to where the eyebolt would screw in.
Wind tailstock all the way to the right and take the chuck off and it'll almost lift level, just needs a hand pushing the tailstock end down.

But I can recommend a bloke called Steve Cox at landy lift he can do up to a ton

I could be wrong but they mentioned Victoria, I think the video is from Australia so only a few members are likely to come across them. Having said that, no matter what company they are and however how specialist they are, I would say you have to watch them load and unload and tell them if they are going to do something stupid.

True. If a buyer isn't aware of the correct handling methods though, they may know no better or just not like to say owt. Even experienced chaps have been caught out by some muppet dropping something off a forklift or the like, for example.
