Moving a 12' x 8' shed

We had two sheds in the garden, the 12' x 8' and an 8' x 6' which was directly behind it with one side against the end of the 12' x 8' shed. The 8' x 6' was on the same slabbed base as the 12' x 8' and all we want to do is move the 12' x 8' shed about 6ft back, further down the garden. As it is on a level base which already had a shed on it I'd rather not take it to bits if at all possible.
Has anyone tried this before and, if so, what method did you use and did it work?

quite easy lift up and lay a couple of scaffolding planks under the shed to suport it full length and roll it across using 3 scaffolding tubes putting them under the planks as u go if the ground is soft lay planks down and roll on top of them

Putting a couple of ratchet straps round it might be a good idea.

Mines about the size of your smaller shed but...I used those Lidl corner wheelie things for moving heavyish stuff.

there was four pieces and a lift bar,you lifted one corner and placed it underneath and did the same with the other three corners,worked quite well with the aid of a friend to push it to where i wanted it but i did take everything out to make the shed lighter.

thats the only way if the shed is on garden soil.

I'd get a couple of long battens and fit them cross-wise diagonaly in the base and screw them together where they cross. This will keep the base square and prevent the sides from twisting when you move it. Lift up a corner at a time using a shovel and block it up. Slide two or three long tubes under it, lower it onto the tubes and slide it along the tubes to where you need it. Wood slides very easily on round tubing.

This method works well, just empty the shed first!

It probably would but have any of you tried lifting an empty 12x8 ft shed up even at one end,all the weight is in the roof mainly but the sides are adding to that weight.

yes i have moved one using blocks of wood and scaffolding planks underneath as fulcrumb and levers to put it on bricks before sliding the scaffold planks and rollers undeneath lower it down and give it a push 2 of u can do it p..s easy .

Yes I have moved sheds this way, as Brightspark says using levers and blocks and a bit of muscle it's surprisingly quick to scoot a shed into a new position.

Only trouble is I don't think I'll be able to get two 12ft scaff planks. Might be some at work but getting them home could be tricky. Watch this space..........

Three scaffold bars underneath and make sure the ends where you want to move the shed to has a longer length.

At the other ends you and two other blokes lift the shed at that end and the shed will slide down the poles further back,probably have to repeat a few times till its in the position you want it.

Go and see your local jewsons and ask if they could drop you 3 off for a few hours....

Metal tubes are best. If you can't find scaffold tubes use conduit or even broom handles and put small planks under them so they don't sink in the grass.

Handy thing to have about anyhow and most builders merchants don't charge much for them and usually include delivery
