been asked by my work today if they brought me an old scrap car could i cut it in half, make a frame up to mount it and they will have it bolted onto our wall.
bassically we resently knocked down our showroom and now have a large tarmaced area with around 100 used cars, they need somthing to grab people attention to us as we are on a main road so it was sugested having the front of a car mounted on the side of our workshop with graphic behind it so it looks like its coming out from the wall.
from the outside it still needs to look like a car, im going to strip every bit of weight off the car, everything out of the engine bay and inside will go, aswell as maybe cutting out the bulk head etc to make it as light as possible. having never done this before, searched google and found nothing i need some advice on a frame. i posted a pic bellow, very rough as just did it on paint but you get the idea, car will fit on the top, rails welded to flow pan and top rails weled to the a pillars. thinking of keeping the crash bar inside and welding another support bar onto this? i would rather have it overkill and be to strong than not strong enough.
what size bar is needed for the frame, i was thinking some 3mm thick, 25x25mm box section, welder is a clarke 150 turbo mig so dont think it will do much more than 3mm? i have a bottles of c02 which i can easly get and 2 bottles of argon mix with i cant get anymore. is the argon better for the thicker materals i used the c02 on some 4mm thick tube a few weeks back and it didnt weld very good with it, the wire seems to blob on the end of the wire rather than pool? maybe the settings, worked fine with 2mm
