Good advise ^^^, if in doubt, get / make up some extra frame tube + slugs and have a couple of trial runs to dial in your settings / practice welding all the way around the tubes and you can cut up the trial weld to assess the penetration. Use decent lengths of tube to practice with, small sections will get too hot very quickly.Id have though your origional tube would be something like 1.6 mm wall.
Not sure on the settings on your welder, mine only has 5 so my selections are quite limited.
Try a weld on the off cut see how it goes, but as said about you need to make sure you get right through. The gap will also work better if you can keep it all in the right place when you weld it.
Purpose of double wall tube I would guess is to add strength to shock mount area.
Looks good, but if you can its better to leave a wider gap, so your butt weld surface is almost flat, which will mean you have full pen into both tubes, as well as the slug inside. For first effort though thats pretty good. Did you check everything fitted properly before welding though? Its a mistake which is easy to make, and something I have done in the past.
Hi,
I'm doing some minor modifications to a Honda motorcycle frame.
