As above, ER70S2 or A15 is the rod you want. Using a matched filler will cause the material to become brittle, and a post weld heat treatment would be required to bring the piece back to full strength.

A mild steel rod allows for some elasticity in the weld, but due to it mixing with the parent metal, the weld bead is stronger than just plain mild steel. Also, the weld bead is generally thicker than the tubing, so extra strength is gained there too.
