aluminium oxide will be ok it comes in difrent grades ideal for steel and paint will work on ally but leaves a rough finish. ok if its getting painted but if not fine sand and bead blasted after is bestIn the process of buying a Sealey siphon blast cabinet, which will be the best general abrasive to use for medium/light rust, oxidised ally, and paint removal. Considering ali oxide??.
TIA
we all know the score with kiln dried sand but everyone still uses it just make sure u have a good extracta or a good quality mask as with anything dusty. eg fiberglass . spray paint. grinding . rust of metal. sweeping a dirty concrete floor the list is endlessNeedless to say, it's illegal and dangerous to use sand. Use J-blast Supafine if aluminum oxide isn't abrasive enough. Have a look in the links section for descriptions of the various media available.

if u look back a few years ago there is a post where u used it and posts where others have 2No we do not all know the score, that's why people ask questions. We can't have suggestions to use illegal and dangerous products on the forum go unchallenged.
Even if you do have the proper PPE its use is illegal in all but a few instances, check the HSE website for details, see the Links section.
I'm using Chilled iron still, but it seems to be dissappearing. I've got a couple of bags of J blast super fine so will try that soon. Whats the J blast like for dust?
If your using your blaster often get a blast pot as well. Sooo much better and more efficient. They claim to be 35% more efficient but I think its the only product that is underrated. I bet mine is more like 100%.

.....
once used the media breaks down and gets quite dusty if its sieved with a fine mesh to clear the fine dust then sieved again to grade out the rubbish and large particles it can be used again and is quite economical . using it ungraded and a bad air supply without water seperator fitted is a total waste of time .all u will be doing is hurtling dust aroundIt will only be used occasionally, but even so that is still a consideration, will see how it goes.
Cheers
I have a dyson sucking the dust out of my cabinet, does the job, but is loud and gets hot. Other than that it was free
Ok guys, I obviously did searches first before posting but it is becoming more confusing.
I have a Sealey SB973 on its way, will just about be able to do bike wheels in that. Before I get back on the grit, will a bagless vac.be enough as an efficient dust extractor or will I be better getting a dedicated dust extractor with 100mm hose?.
As I said the blaster will only be used occasionally so grit cost is only a problem if I buy the wrong ones. I need it for corroded alloy and painted/med. rusted steel to be painted, and a little brass to be laquered. I would obviously like to keep the different mediums to a minimum.
Thanks.
That was my concern overheating as well as efficiency.
Cheers
It's efficient alright, just noisy.
