Modified vehicle advice to insurance

Anyone have any experience of this.
Last year I made an internal crash bar and bolted it to the inside of my camper,as it has no bonnet,some protection,it fits above and forward of the pedals,so doesn’t affect the controls,I shaped it so it’s unobtrusive.
I’m now concerned I should advise Adrian flux,it’s insured as a classic,so very low cost.
Should I move to a more specialist insurance,suitable for modified vehicles,do I risk much by informing them,I guess if I don’t and am in a RTA they could refuse to pay out.

Adrian Flux is a specialist insurer, yes you should tell them about any modifications, as you said failure to mention this could cause them not to pay out.

If Adrian flux won’t cover it I could dig out the insurer for my van. They don’t care about anything that isn’t performance based.

I’ve declared mods I’ve made to the Morgan before without premiums increasing, as @KimB says as long as they’re not performance enhancing they’re not normally bothered.

as per others have said, it seems to be the ONE good thing ive found to getting older, just tell them, they note it on your policy, and it tends to make absolutely zero difference to cost

The cost will increase going on to a modified policy as only certain underwriters will deal with these and you pay more of that then a "standard" policy.
However, once you have a modified policy 90% of the mods you do will make zero difference to the cost of the premiums, so it is worth declaring everything.

You will usually pay more again if you get an agreed value, but that may be worth looking at if you want a like for like payout on the modifications - this is only typically worth it if you are putting serious money into the mods.
Also check with them on your mileage, reducing your annual allowance doesn't necessarily reduce the premium once you reach a certain point, and may restrict you unnecessarily.

A Plan have been very good so far with my Defender and the 6x6. As others say once it's on a modified policy they usually don't particularly car how many mods you have.

aplan wont insure me because the car is 'too powerful for your experience level'

after id told them about my competition licence and my experience with superbikes, several skylines and a couple of aston martins. but because none of the cars ive insure in the last few years have more than 250hp im apparently not good enough to insure a 450hp rx8...

REIS are decent for modded vehicles. especially if you have a msa competition licence so you get the discount.

I just left them (trading as bikesure) after many years because of their shenanigans.

Got my renewal this year whch was a similar price to last about 300 quid. I had bought another bike though because mine was on 121k miles. Same model, same use, same value, just different reg. I stored it over winter until renewal time so I wasn't riding the new bike on salty winter roads.

So I arranged to swap the bike on the renewal date. Gave them all the full correct and honest details. Put it all through the system and it was £10 more, I could live with that.

Then I blew the head gasket on my old bike 4 days before the change-over so I called them to ask if I could add my new bike to the policy for a few days. They said we can do better than that, we can start the new policy 4 days early so you don't pay a penalty. He put it through the system and the premium had jumped to 600 quid. I told him to stuff that, I'll wait 4 days and let the policy renew at the price I was quoted and already paid for.

They called back and said that because they mis-quoted me, they would have to cancel the policy and re-quote. I told them that I had already accepted and paid for the quote they gave, that I had given them full and correct details and we had a contract and I was sticking to it. Her excuse was that because they had not changed the purchase date, the policy was invalid. They actually tried to claim that a bike I had owned 6 months was double the cost to insure over an identical bike I had owned 6 years.

In the end I told them to poke it and went with Bennets.

Just renewed with Bennetts, they were wanting £450 for 6,000 miles. Phoned them up and said I was needing it cheaper and wanted 7,000 miles, I got it for £379
I really wanted to stay with Bennetts as they are easy to contact, have a list of parts you don't need to inform them about and you also get a Bike Social membership with gives pretty good discount on parts and gear. As an example I decided to look at the cost of a Schuberth E2 Helmet and comms, everyplace is £860, through bike social I could get it for £705.

And then they make it clear quite how dishonest they are by halving the premium. And then the whole "we will beat anyone else" thing.

I mean, once i found someone else, its not like id ever go back!

I have been bouncing between Adrian Flux, A Plan and Brentacre. They are all just brokers, my insurance are normally with 'Makerstudy' regardless of the three brokers I use.

As above, declare your mods.

Must admit I've always found a plan helpful. When I spoke to them about insuring the 6x6 I told them that as far as I knew it was standard apart from the engine. Despite the V5 stating it had a 5.7l V8 diesel (actually had a 2.8l straight 6), two axles (well if you ignored one of them) and a 109" wheel base (well how do you put down two wheel bases?).

They said, meh, well just put it down as an engine swap and everything else is factory as best as you can describe it
