I don't see any ulterior motive? Quite often you won't have enough braking distance to stop before hitting the obstacle, but if you have ABS then you can steer to avoid it with the brakes doing their bit to shed speed in the meantime. The alternative is hitting the brakes hard, locking up and ploughing straight into the ob
There are limits to any of these safety gizmo's . We had a customer who was convinced that his ALB system wasn't working despite having it checked by our own Tecky. So we sent the senior manager to sort it out . The CU drove down a very wet lane covered in leaves far too fast got to a sharp corner with no hope of getting round ,trod on the brakes and slid into the bank. "there you are I said they don't work"I will have my Amaroc checked out when I can because there may be a fault, like I said before I only need to touch the brake pedal lightly on a slippery surface and I have no control over stopping or steering I have tried quite a few times on the back roads where I live and find it extremely dangerous.
I understand the theory and I understand it well enough to see the potential danger.lol, I know it’s in trend to get angry at stupid things on the internet these days so I’m unlikely to make any friends with my non angry views in here.
you have a choice. Buy an older car (but I suspect there’s be complaints about that too because you have to spend money maintaining the thing). Or embrace the technology that is making the roads safer despite your inability to understand it and the rare occasions where it malfunctions.
For what it’s worth, my focus initiated an emergency stop once, when I cut behind a car on a roundabout to closely. My fault, should be driving better. Other than that, 3 years of driving it and it never caused me a problem, even earned me when I was drifting in and out of lanes by vibrating the steering wheel.
Argue the point as much as you like, it’s all based on feeling not fact, because the fact is the biggest flaw with cars, the weakest link in the chain if you will is the squishy organic bit sat between the seat and the steering wheel thinking they know best
Cars behind you should be keeping a safe distance to avoid you should you come to an emergency stop, computer or manually operated.
if they don’t, they hit you, which renders you not at fault, you also get treated like royalty as a third party with damages.
compare that to you not concentrating and the system interacting before you do hit something, pays for itself before you’ve even thought about it.
We have a 2019 Suzuki Swift Sport which has lots of electronic stuff. Half of it we haven't worked out how it works or how to turn it off.
Having said that none of it is overly intrusive. The lane wandering thingy just flashes a light and the collision avoidance does the same.
No complaints about car technology here.
I think japanese car makers can get technology to work far better than any other countries. We have a 2019 Suzuki Swift Sport which has lots of electronic stuff. Half of it we haven't worked out how it works or how to turn it off.

Wife got rear ended waiting at a roundabout on her bandit. Tard who hit her claimed she reversed into him.....Just don't go there. I've related this on here before, but I bet I'm the only bloke ever to get knocked off a motorcycle while stopped at a pedestrian crossing and the FW insurers decided it was my fault
As someone who drives slow enough to be in front of one . . , I beg to differ . . .You cannot catch it out and is much, much, faster to react than you so it never blinds another driver either coming towards you or in front of you.

Now as to the person who put the tiny tiny main beam warning light on my car just where its hidden by your hand on the wheel . . . and fitted it with headlights so crap I couldn't tell from inside that they were on main beam . . .
Video evidence required please!Oh......just in case anyone's wondering ...since taking my advanced driving test....... I now always use the 'optional' indicators
