Scaffolding adjusters?
I think limb length (not a euphemism no matter what @8ob 's dad says) has a more to do with it than your overall height. Longer than average legs will mean more bending and cause lower back grief.Same here I like a tall workbench! Otherwise I tend to get a sore back leaning to any degree. I am 6'2" maybe thay doesn't help but I have had to make any "good" benches I have had and they have been exceptionally tall compared to others that's just how I like em
I've gone for 800mm from the floor and I'll give it 150mm of potential lift. The thinking being that with something tall-ish on it I'll be able to work comfortably, but I can take it up to the same (900mm) height as the main/fixed bench. With it on wheels it means I'd also be able to easily transfer something heavy between the two benches if necessary by making the loaded bench a few mm higher then the bench whatever is going on to.Tall is ok as long as you don't have to wrestle a heavy job onto it.

My father always reckoned benches should be cock high.

That is not a yard.Pretty much the yardstick I work to though. From tackle to waist height.
I'd prefer mine to be below bench height and out of the line of fire tbh.Pretty much the yardstick I work to though. From tackle to waist height.
