went on run into town had smoke coming from front os wheel and wheel felt hot.

The other thing that can happen if it has an ally vauxhall master cyl as apposed to a black bendix, is the master cyl are S**T and can restrict the fluid return because the seal's sticking IIRC they have all four pipes into the cyl so one hole into the body could be holding the brake on , this would also give you the feeling of a high pedal because the fluid is 'backed up' in the pipes, again IIRC there is an adjustment on the end of the servo plunger rod to give adjustable clearance, for the master cyl piston to achieve the required clearance.
the problem is as the fluid heats up it cannot return into the res and puts the brake on, that further heats the fluid, and increases the brake pressure etc etc until you stop driving and the brake cools and releases itself.
If there is no adjustment on the plunger, I think IIRC I have put shim washers between the servo and the master cyl to create the clearance as a quick fix.

When I first read the title I thought we're talking about matchbox type toy car's HOTWHEELS

he picked me up from school and had look at home.
sliders were grotty but not drastically so, cleaned them up.
also whoever fitted pads hadn't cleaned anything up so surface area pads slide on were very rusty and pitted.
piston moved freely using wind back tool without sticking and rubber looked ok.
hopefully thats it.

It's just that you used a wind back tool that normally indicates rear.

some people are posh and buy the tool i just use a g cramp with a socket in the piston for the fronts and wind them back

dad bought tool with loads of adaptors in to do a vectra rear ones on mot failure on his mates sons car.

Only need windback for rear (unless front handbrake) It's because the piston does wind back on a thread to make automatatic adjustment for handbrake as pads wear. But if you have the tool why not use it. I think it's easyer and quicker just to get the waterpump pliers out for the front lol.

I know the old style of transit are with the drum handbrake and disc foot brake set up are. Removing them half shafts and torqueing them up to stupid nm is a pain. Evan the fronts are a bearing off job. Just not worked on any new ones.
