Gearbox crossmember mounts welded into position today.
I would probably put some small gussets in here, would be easy to do on the bench.
That is exactly what I planned to do..!!!!! the other option was to weld another 3mm plate over both plates to strenghen the weld join.
Found your thread a couple of weeks ago, keep up the fantastic work, I'm just about to start a mk2 build and this has given me a lot of inspiration.
Looking forward to seeing some more pics.
Good luck with your build, I too looked at other build threads to get inspiration and ideas so thought I should do the same. Neil has probably already advised you to use Rally Weld as Sean is very helpful and his parts are a good fit.
Been waiting for a dry and sunny Weekend for Months so took the opportunity to blow off the winter dust and Zinc the inside of the MK2.
Looks very good, I bet it's given the enthusiasm a bit of a boost too.
Although it might not look as if the shell has progressed, only those who have taken the underside of a shell back to bare metal with just a wire wheel in an angle grinder and drill can appreciate how much time it takes, and how dirty a job it is..:dizzy:
I've also sanded the the rest of shell to bare metal, gone over the filler with stopper and cleaned up the front end ready for more zinc.
Have you decided on the colour yet?
Going to be Frozen White and probably gun metal grey on the inside
When do you reckon the first outing will be ?
I don't have a time scale but it won't be any time soon!!!
I would hate to be you the first time you drive it in anger , you will be that nervous of something failing or heaven forbid bending it
Can you see whats peeking out from under the covers on the right
Got around to zinc priming the shell today, only the underneath left to zinc.
The primer shows up all of the areas that need attention, especially where filler has been applied.
If there are any good painters living around the Pontypridd area that want to earn some cash to tidy up the filler areas please let me know, I'll provide all the tools and consumables!!
very nice… brings back memories of when i bare metalled my capris shell and bought my welder and joined here, years ago now
didn't realise you were that close to me in pontypridd. Ive enjoyed reading through this and seeing all the work done. Shell is looking awesome too
That's looking great, makes me want to pull my finger out and finish mine. Are those rear arches monty's?
