in the olde days would just need a tweak on the idle screw

wasn't that one but very similar, yeah screw driver out and job done, did you try disconnecting the battery for a few mins to see if it had any effect

yeah done the battery twice now after swapping bits....only thing i guess i could try is do it again but with all the gadgets on from start up

well its been the mrs car for ages , id noticed it trying to stall but never really took much notice , but now i drive it and i spot all the issues , id say its always been a bit like it but seems worse now

I was just wondering if it could be a bad connection to the ecu suppose you could unplug it and check the connections

If it's driving fine without any power loss then I wouldn't point to the air mass unless the first learned value is dodgy but I've not come across that before on petrol engines.
I have heard of the temperature sensor in the head at the side of the third cylinder spark plug causing idling issues.

haynes say - disconnect , then idle the engine until warm , hold at 1200 for 2 mins then drive it about

is that correct?

and yes other than the bad idle with a load it drives normally with no faults

Not sure that it would cure it if hasn't already but you have nothing to lose by trying

okay the mrs has just quizzed a distant family member thats a ford mechanic , its like getting blood from a stone but he is suggesting it might need to go on the ford diag machine and reset the cam ?

does that make sense to anyone ? not reset the belt itself , reset in the comp?

any ideas how basic of a machine i could get away with diy?

I think he is referring to kam, it's keep alive memory. It's the pcm and learnt values on running conditions, I takes seconds to carry out of ids, not sure how Much a dealer would charge.
There is info online if you Google on how to do it yourself, I however have never done this method

I would ask seller if I does kam reset before buying, other than that seems to do a lot for not much money.

I unfortunately don't have the means to do with a kam reset outside of work. Pm Me your reg, just want to look into a few things
