mk1 focus low idle with load or air con

got a mk1 1600 focus

when the a/c is turned on the rev drop around 100-150 and sounds too low , the dash starts to rattle and it just doesnt sound happy

ive cleaned the tb , replaced the breather hose thats known to colapse and replaced the idle valve with a new one , then undone the battery for 10 mins so it can relearn , its improved the idle a bit but the issue is there with the a/c

any ideas please

there is usually a sensor on the aircon pipe that ups the revs

forget that im thinking of power steering

there will be a throttle position sensor but i can see it being that, check for air leaks for a start and vaccuum hoses off

is there not something that detects the extra load and triggers a raised idle ?

surley air leaks and what not would be there 24/7 and cause a bad idle regardless off the a/c ?

I had a focus TDCI that had a lumpy tick over and quite often would stall when cold if I left it running to warm up and defrost, Quick blast of contact cleaner through the MAF sensor and it looked a lot cleaner and ran better. Might be worth trying?

You can buy MAF cleaner [got a part-used tin somewhere] but it might just be contact cleaner [like Servisol etc] in a smart suit........

i just think its related to the added load of elecs /air con pump ...idles like new with nothing turned on so to me that says no vac leaks , maf etc ?

can make it come and go as i turn on the a/c

Petrol or diesel, only deisel have a MAF, petrol doesn't.

Do you have any noises coming from the ac pump as a seizing pump would pull the tickover right down.

its petrol

no strange noises , also does it if i whack on the heated screens /headlamps etc ...idle goes good/bad instantly as you turn on stuff

whatever doo dahh raises the idle isnt working...just need to find that

no was just pointing out it has one it has to be a problem with the ecu not recognising the load, I have read on line where someone had an ecu software update and it cured the same problem

it might be worth spreaking to @premmington I think he has an ecu repair service or similar, he may have some ideas

I knew someone that fried his focus ecu amongst other things with 24v battery charger, I ordered one from ebay for him, if it comes to it you could do the same, as long as the numbers match

in the olde days would just need a tweak on the idle screw
