That's now's fixed!

You can see where the monkey has bashed the bolt past the wrong section of the ball joint instead of the scalloped part.
I also found a loose bolt that holds a part of the chassis in place that must come out to change the wishbone so paranoia made me strip out the whole thing to check the rest of the bolts. That includes removing the front bumper that I've only just put back on
Everything is now good but I'll replace that pinch bolt asap.

Is it the gearbox bearings? Did you try clutching it and see if it quietens?

Unfortunately it sounds like the infamous gearbox input bearing that's making noise.
The other racket was the old oil filter as that's now quite after an oil change.

Gearbox input bearing will make a racket until you push the clutch in. When driving, usually 1st gear makes a right racket, lessening as you go up the gears. I have an MG6 that does exactly this.

I have a Suzuki swift so I'm well used to a whirring whining gearbox lol. I've drove it the past 4 years with it whining though.

They're scabby looking. I have 60 year old drums on my mini that look like new in comparison.

Very little wear and original fiat/Lancia parts! I'm going to put them through my blaster and see what they look like.
At least I know what heo weird squeaking noise was now.

Good grief, I thought my daughters Takuya drums looked a bit scaly, but they're nearly new compared to yours.

A quick drunken look tells me it's the cables at the gear stick that's come off

Fix it and get shot, a friends daughter had one from new so it was well looked after but its now in continuous break/fix/break/fix mode

Untrendy but worthy kit with no badge caché at sensible prices don't get a look-in. (Suits me that way though )

You can get a gear change cable repair clip for some cars that holds the cable to the ball joint, might be a suitable repair for not a lot of money

Yes I've seen new ball joints for the gearbox end but I think it's the gear stick end that's gone, obviously it's pizzing down with rain today so I can't look at it year.
