Then jump in a skid steer.......
You should try an old 580 hymac, until you have had a day or two in one they are a totally unorthodox headfeck to operate. Had one for about ten years, none of my guys would use it

When I worked for Poclain all new employees, regardless of job, had to spend a day on the dirt heap at the bottom of the yard in a 360 machine.

Previous owner put a digger bucket through a 3 phase cable running down the drive here, but it doesn’t appear on any services maps at all….. think it’s a leftover from when our house was part of a factory. Half tempted to go looking for it again

Bear in mind that China tariffs are seriously ramping up now that EU investigations have concluded that China has been subsidising their products to kill competition. China is front loading sales now in anticipation of large falls in orders. I'd be weary spending big sums on something that may disappear from the market.

Spent an hour practising in the bosses field on a large pile of dirt.
I was impressed with what it could do, but also not impressed with the lack of power when trying to bury the bucket into hard dry ground, but that is me expecting to much of it, plus what it is going to be digging is much more rockier and looser.
I did notice the engine bay got very hot, so hot my right calf was getting uncomfortably hot against the steel bulkhead.
I thought it did track rather slowly, couple of the drivers who move big machinery all the time had a look see and could see no obvious problems.
Spent some time going over it tightening various loose bolts, repair broken volt meter, replace missing grease nipples, cable tie a few pipes.

Service plans only usually list mains. Very rarely will they list spurs.
It takes a lot of practice to dig round utilities. Definitely not something achievable in a few weeks. And adapted buckets not toothed.

Work have bought a jang gong (or whatever it is ) 25 ton digger from china .
Looks much better than the jcb js series and doesn’t have electronic nonsense to make it main dealer only .
I think the Chinese do actually listen I know we’re sick of manufacturers behaving like tech companies locking people out because it’s still their IP

Our broker put all of our machines on the fleetplan, there was a substantial saving.

Mines on my farm policy….but its never on a trailer, and only works on my land. Sold the trailer so no one asks to borrow it!

Well I brought it home today.
Bulldozed all the spoil on the driveway in 5 minutes flat, that would have taken me 1/2 an hour plus by hand.
Had to sawzall the side gate post off to get it through.
Managed to rip up two concrete blocks and a few bricks as one lump, quite impressed with that.
Dug one bucketful out out of the hole (as it is Sunday I thought i would not make to much noise) I reckon this would dig in 10 minutes what took me hours the other day.

It is a Colt something or other! bought from Bazplant, I originally was after a JPC machine for no other reason than I had seen them on ebay, I said yes I will have it then he rung back to tell me it had already been sold, so I bought this one instead.
4k plus vat so total of 4.8k
This is their site, I have no affiliation with the guy, he seemed simple to deal with, and that is half the battle with me, plus he answered the phone promptly every single time.
He also told me pretty much all the chinese minis are much the same with detail differences.
I did ask if they were really any good, he said they had sold about 200 of them and one had blown an engine because the guy had never serviced it, and a few ign switches had packed up.

Did some more today, roughly 3 hrs of my time, and about 1.2 hours run time on the digger, got me quite a hole, roughly 4 feet deep and 4 feet wide by 6 feet long.
Dig hole putting all the spoil into my homemade sled, then use land rover winch to drag it out of the hole and down the driveway, then rotate sled 90 degs and use winch to turn the sled over as I cannot physically lift it even with the aid of a bar.
