right took the spinlde in today and it wont work
theres not enough material on the spinlde to
convert it to r8!
so its for sale just want to get back what it owes me
and go get something with a more common taper
someone with a bit of engineering back ground would
probley be able to sort it
thanks for all the advice mike
No, no, no, you dont want to be doing that.Very nice solid machines, far nicer & more rigid than a Bridgeport (most things are imo). If I didnt have 5 millers allready I'd snap your hand off!!
the gorton collet is about 3in long and the r8 is 4in
im worried about the metal being to thin
because where the spindle goes though the bearing
the spindles not much bigger than the r8 collet?
Can you give the dimensions of your collet. Major & minor dia's + length between them, and length & dia of any parallel.
Which model machine is it?? I used to use an 8 or 9 and Im almost positive (I think) that we changed the taper to MT3, you should get your local machine shop to bore it out for you but you must finish it in the miller to keep it concentric. (a simple job, when you now how!) If you dicide to do it I'll provide you with instructions.
Lots of lowcost MT tooling available try-
