Just to give you an update, the place that did the work on this casing never did put it right and I ended up turning down a bush to sort it out – lesson learned.
The even better news is that my search for a Mill is finally over. After the best part of a year looking for a good deal I finally found one that was worth buying that didn’t bankrupt me.
I saw a Chinese Bridgeport clone advertised and went and had a look, I have got to be honest I had already made my mind up to buy it when he said there a bit of tooling you can have with it. A bit of tooling was an understatement there must be hundreds of end mills, reamers and drill bits, not to mention a machine vice, R8 collets, 5C collets, a few bandsaw blades (which just happen to fit my small bandsaw), hold down clamps and large angle plate and a few items I haven’t a clue about.
I have posted a few pictures of my new toy and the last two are of some of the bits I haven’t a clue about. Any ideas?
So, all I have to do is to get it into place and learn how to use the thing

The last photo is of a counter boring bit - I only know as I had quite a few of them in the boxes of tooling that came with my lathe and it took me a while to find a name for it despite being fairly obvious what it would be used for. Second to last looks like some sort of rotary indexing table - I'm sure someone who knows will be along soon to tell you.

Second to last looks like a dividing head. Difficult to tell from the angle of the photo.
did you get any other disks with it - with different patterns of holes?

Second to last is a 5c spindexer. You got a bloody good haul of tools there - possibly equal to the value of the machine.

Sorry chaps I forgot to mention that I gave £1200 of my hard earned for that lot.
The Mills a year 2000 machine which runs so smooth, not like the noisy Bridgeports I have looked at previously and everything works as it should, although I haven't tested the coolant pump yet. It came out of a closed down factory that used to make plastic parts and it doesn't look like its done more than a weeks work in it life. I thought a big bonus was the Sony LH51 DRO.
But the biggest bonus of all was that I only had to travel 15 miles to pick it up.

As for the counter boring bits, how are they used? What tolerance do you drill the pilot hole first.
There are a few other bits I am not sure about, I will post pics shortly.

You drill to the clearance hole of your desired thread size and they some in sort of universal sizes. say it is for m8 it will have about .3 or .4 clearance and about a mil clearance to accommodate a m8 cap head.

I was going to say that they are probably sized to suit tapping-size drills.

At £1200, I'd be over the moon with that!

That's a good price. I've seen knackered bridge ports up for more than that without any tooling.

To be fair if I added up all the time and diesel I have spent traveling all over the country looking at overpriced rubbish during the past year the real cost is much higher. But still it was much cheaper than I would have had to pay a dealer so I'm a happy chappie
One of the omissions with that load of tooling was a boring head, any idea if the ones that RDG tools sell are any good or do I have to dig deeper?

Rdg are a bit poo but many find them ok for garage hobby use. The stuff to look out for is maykestag kennametal fenn tool seco etc. A good carbide face mill is very useful and world's apart from a flycutter.

I am after one of them 942 or similar, quite robust machines. Generally looking around the price has crashed the last 6 months, what used to be circa £3.5k now around £1.5k. Theres a lot of rubbish out there.

2nd picky up from bottom in the box is a Clarkson collet for threaded milling cutters, hate the things stick with the R8 collets above you will never look back.
Just a finer point, nothing strenuous with that mill vice the back will break out. Saying that some years back on small mill broke one and bought another £45, theyre accurate with limitations. Now relegated to a specific job on cross slide of lathe.

Ive got some good service out of a cheap boring head, but I tend to snug up the allen bolts controlling the gib tension too as well as the locking screw when I start getting near final dimensions.
I've made all sorts of stupidly shaped boring bar bits to fit it to tackle work outside its work envelope too.
I think if I was going to be relying on it daily for making a crust I'd save up and invest in a wohlhaupter.

Those 5c indexers are handy too, you can buy chinese ones so cheap theyre almost disposable, and I think arc eurotrade sells one that takes er collets instead of 5c if you have er's around instead.

Finally got this Mill in its final resting place today and made a start of sorting out all this tooling. I have found a few bits I am not sure as to their use. Anyone got any ideas?

3rd from bottom is a mag block usually used on a surface grinder. 2nd from bottom look like bits of gp hss. Nor sure about the rest.

I think 2nd from bottom are abrasives. Silicon carbide dressing stick perhaps?

First picture is abrasive wheel dresser Used on such machine as surface/ cylindrical grinders.That one you have there does appear to be workshop made and could have been produced for a specific application, either that or they did now know how to side dress a wheel and therefore made that up. Look at the round thing sticking out of the end you will find it has a diamond in it.

Correctly said, item 2 is mag block commonly used on surface grinders or any magnetic chuck. Mainly used by mold/ toolmakers. They are supplied and often used in pairs, so you may have just one odd one if that's all you have.

The last 2 images, Pete is along the right lines. Looks like some lumps of wood and abrasive stones. They can be known as oil stones or slip stones. used for finishing flattening, rubbing, hardened materials. etc etc.
The lumps of wood are again for final finishing and lapping of hard materials used in conjunction with diamond compounds and lubricant. What I can see in the image is the softer of the available woods for final finishing of fully hard moulds, coining dies and lots of other odd things that are produced in toolrooms.

Any toolmaker will know the name 'Hyprez' and will have spent many hours rubbing their fingers to the bone. Sold by www.engis.com/ probably the worlds biggest supplier of high quality diamond compounds and finishing products. I know them well as i have worked within half a mile of them for erm longer than i can remember.

Yes there are two of those mag blocks, am I right in assuming they act as work mounting blocks on magnetic chucks. I notice that they are not magnetic in themselves.
