that there is what makes me love tig welding. hopfully one day i will be as good as you.

just would like to know there no back purge is there? and what grade of tig rod are you using?

brendan the first 2 pics are the tig wire i have most access to, pic 3 is the machine for the thermal oil line. the last two are 2g on that line. scotty im not aware of your experience as to pipe work, i know its an old chestnut but there is a lot of truth in your only as good as your last ba###up . welding god really dosn,t fit, ill post a picture of one of my personal idols jerry aka the wizard of rods, i have really struck out somewhere if i have given the impression i would like to be god of anything, last time i checked i wasn,t suffering from an ingrowing ass##le, the first signs of becoming a prima donna. that said thanks for your interest lads f/j

ok, not a god then, but bloody good at welding. i have little expirience with pipework, except some guard rails at work and a bit of scaffolding tube welding etc lol.whats your prefered method of welding, tig mma or mig, or even oxyacet.

hi there , do you use any kind of purge gas or any form of sheild gas on the inside weld as i am impressed with how clean the inside of weld looks. I have never had to do pipe work like you do but have had to make stainless products withe butt jointrd pipe and always needed to purge the inside to keep the weld clean. the parts i was making where quite small and easy to fill with sheild gas but a job like yours that must be diffcult. does mild require a sheild on the reverse?

pastiche, i just noticed that brendan asked that same question, sorry brendan, no lads there is no need for a backing purge on m/s. scotty i would be lying if i said your comments didn,t sting , thanks for your reply, im sure you didn,t mean any harm and the way you have apologised say a lot about your character. its funny that i can accept critique faster than that c##p.. runnach a few of the old guys i have worked with over the years were involved with the north sea, all sadly either passed away or retired, they were characters to a man i wonder have you ever heard of the great [ valdez] heres a few sockets, low pressure gas lines. f/j

just notice you grind the root run down? how come you do this?
also them pipes are done in 2 runs? same as that low presure gas line? 2 run fillet?

i wasnt taking the **** in any way or form f/j. seriously. i am sorry if it came across like that. i always look at the things you have been making, and just wish i could weld as good as you. i can even get to grips with uphill stick. think it might be the rods i am using(probably me lol)

one last thing in the last set of pictures, the second one from the top. tou have grinded the start point of the second run. is this needed in the weld passing expection etc or just for ashetics. also what amps, filler ands postition was the above pictures

Don't keep your mouth shut! Especially once you've figured out good advice for vertical ups. I'm facing the same battles myself.

(There's a sticky in the arc forum with the trick, and it's much easier when welding into a 90 degree corner.)

i cant even get the hang of vert ups with the mig. not enough practice me thinks. normally only have to do vert downs on the frames and a bit of o/head

scotty, i thought i already had accepted your apology, i have worked with all sorts over the years and there is nothing more offputing than a welder with an ego, trust me they exist, its the nature of the job, i think if you knew me personally you would understand what im saying its bloody embarrassing and the last impression i meant to convey.f/j: runnach im not sure of the spelling but the oldtimers im talking about worked in keshhorn, they tell me that there was a fictional us welder by the name of valdez, i think from a place in alaska, he was due to arrive from week to week and put the prima donas in their place, an old pipefitter versus welder joke catch you later. flange.

Evening F/J, sounds like Valdez was one o those cracking urban myths generated by the many industrial gypsies, working sites when UK use to have a decent manufacturing base!!

Place you write off is deep water Loch Kishorn, Howard Doris were yard owners. My dad worked there, he worked logistics on the HAD to be constant concrete pour!!!
