Metal shed, bad idea?

@Olderisbetter thats fantastic. I'd love to custom build something to take all the space I have but I just don't have the time, if I order this weekend I can have it delivered Tuesday, up on Thursday and filled by Friday

I have erected three sheds in the last five years for my own personal use using 100mm insulated panels. These are a tounge and groove fit and once you have your base down they are a sinch to erect. All you need is a good pop rivet gun and a good cordless to drill for the rivets. If you are going with a flat roof it might make good sense to use 150mm on the roof if you in an area where you are likely to get lots of snow in winter. Other wise I could'nt be more happy, no condensation, no maintenance......20 x 14 shed, start to finish, two days.

for a speed reference all 3 options can be used

pinlap shed
built shed just a little bit longer

however id go for the last one due to its strength and long lasting compared to the other 2 that are flimsy a nail gun does speed up the process once all pieces are cut to length nailing them is quick and so is the building of the framing using 2 people
then put boards on and finish your roof structure

Not much more substantial than feeler gauges then.

I asked a sheet metal worker if he'd make me a couple of small panels, He said they didn't stock material that thin and had never worked with it before.(Just measured it it's 12thou).

Cheap timber and lined with sterling board and painted with oil based paint will last a surprising length of time and should be cheap.

Expensive but decent quality made from 0.75mm steel and mine has now got eight vents in the back panels, as it's main use will be to store the various gas bottles, that are currently cluttering up the garage/workshop (should also help combat the condensation), together with the small amount of gardening equipment that's doing the same.

Look on ebay there are several companies suplying of the shelf steel framed building to various specs these are far superior bits of engineering i think some pf the are definitely very reasonably priced

Well yesterday we got the new wall in between me and the house next door so i am ready to start building my shed on the blocks i left sticking out, If the weather holds i might get the frame up in the next week.

I've put up two very cheap sheds at the top of the garden .2.5metres x 3.5 metres ish .concrete base wooden frame painted with a tar /diesel mix clad with corrugated steel 500 euros each ... they were supposed to be temporary until I bought the plot of land next door ... that was 6 years ago ....

Timber sheds arent too hard to build, if I was closer I'd come and help
some lengths of 2x3, knock together some studwork walls, square washers and thunderbolt or rawl bolt down, clad with weatherboard/shiplap/overlap (not exterior ply though...its rubbish...that or the chinesium ply the local merchant stocks is utter kack...doable in a weekend between 2 people.

Second this. Though I used 5x2 and 18mm exterior ply moisture paper and batten before feather edging. All stripped off a flat roof I replaced excluding festheredge and felt for roof.

Spot my cock up.

Doubled the base size. New base is level. Old base wasn't and I framed the shed on the flat without thinking. Meh. Got a good fall across the width so no biggie. 300 notes and done in 2 days on my tod. Hell of a job lifting the back panels pre boarded solo.

my walls are 4x2 CLS on 16" centres, roof is 3metre continuous span and 6x2 CLS my dad and grandad reckoned it was overkill
not where I live it isn't, wind howls most of the year...

My walls are something like 73 x 38 mm cls quite skinny stuff but i skin it with 18mm osb T+G outside and 12mm osb inside and that seems very sturdy, Yours must be hurricane proof..

The first time i ever spotted OSB was on a building site in Scotland being used to skin a roof before tiling, I did'nt get why till the wind kicked up a few hours later and it started blowing the scaffold planks about.

I use the chipboard floor sheet to save time but i use the 22mm sheets, I used the 18mm sheets in my man flat part of the house but only over the original floor boards to make it all level and i was laying carpet tiles, But yes if you need access it drives you mad.

Cheers mate. Design is online. Mine evolved. Mk1 were timber. These were 18mm marine ply.

The small table and odd looking props are adjustable for my chop saw. The large table is for breaking down sheet goods with the track saw. Don't really use the latter just chuck battons or kingdpan on the floor. but chop saw table and props cone out of the van regularly. Cost less that £50 to make them all and a year later there's as good as new.
