I can't find anything branded other than Febi or GKN and they are the 350 -450 plus quoted above.we got them from a local supplier branded , but I cant remember as what , monroe maybe , or qh , but they fit ,, had a warranty and caused no issues for maybe three years or so ,,,, just the same as oem.

total garbage and a waste of time and money , very very little that they do is worth fitting
It just makes me uneasy buying something that may or may not be built properly. There's so much rubbish out there and while my cars are all old, they do fairly large mileages often a long way from home and I need to have faith in them. My E61 does over 500 miles a week in some periods and it's 20 years old.I've seem the original ones fail at 50k miles so I certainly wouldn't pay a premium for an original one.
Probably pot luck buying aftermarket but it's not hard to change one. Id just go for one of the £120 ones and if it lasts more than 20k miles it will probably work out cheaper to keep buying those.
last one I did was about £150 from the local motor factors and has done about 40k miles over the last 3 years. Not checked it recently but it was ok at the mot in July..

fair ,,, I normally base it on how much bother it is to change ,,, if its a pita I fit genuine parts ,,, if its handy and likely Ill be doing the job again , then its decent quality aftermarket stuff , cars are not meant to last anymore , just to make it through the warranty periodI know exactly what you mean.
I'd rather pay (far) more for a part of decent quality.
The problem is finding the quality with car parts.
My d4 propshaft center bearing failed completely at just under 60k.
The egr cooler on my vw cracked at under 40k.
Plenty of other minor parts have failed at low milage on all of my vehicles and they were all the original genuine parts.
If land rover and vw cannot find a decent parts supplier or make decent parts themselves I have very little chance of finding one either.
My opinion on it is, if an original part has lasted a reasonable time then I'll replace it with another genuine part.
Bits that fail sooner than I would expect them too (especially common stuff like discovery propshaft bearings) will get aftermarket as the cheap ones generally are not a lot worst than the poor original.
Occasionally I'll fit 'improved' aftermarket parts if they have a good reputation on a forum or something but on more than one occasion I've bought something from a specialist or proformance company and not fitted it as I don't like the look or quality of it when it's arrived.

those euro heads can be mean ,,,Same.
The propshaft is fairly easy.
I've done them myself lying on the floor before. If you don't have side steps (or a beer gut) you don't even need to raise the car up.
