metal in the eye

I bought this one too, with the face shield, a few weeks ago after my rubbish glasses let some grit through. Had no trouble since.

He looks really stoooooopid but a mate swears by skiing goggles, which work on many levels really, comfortable to wear, impact proof, uv rated and of course dont let a fleck of dust in let alone grinder sparks.

I am the last to procrastinate on this issue having been there and the double trip to hospital, to sort the problem out, it happened and I lived to tell the tale

What you have to do is move on, LEARN from the experience, not do it again, as it is easy to become one of the few who loose sight in the eye for sake of a 'quick touch' of the grinder

I've got a pair of these after getting grit in my eye using cheap ones, best thing i've bought tbh.

I use those, they're great, comfortable and they'll fit over glasses with no problem too.

I too found out the hard way, i was seen in A&E by a very rough doctor then refered to the eye clinic for a futher 5 visits. Not Nice

Yup, I had to have two trips, after waiting too long and hoping it would go away. First trip to dig out the spark and second to dig out the rust ring, which takes a bit of time to come to the surface before they can dig it out. I use a shield these days and don't rate goggles because my essential reading specs don't fit properly, and safety glasses just don't work. I find sparks bounce off my cheek under the eye and go straight in. Ouch ouch ouch not worth it.

these re by far the best goggles i've ever owned a little pricey but theyve been abourd for about 6 months at work and theres barely a scratch on them because im usually going between the band saw to angle grinder to pillar drill ect. i keep them on cos there comfortable and i forget i';m wearing them after a wwhile

went to clinic today, stuck my head on that optic machine thingy, looked into the light and gripped the arm rests of the chair and saw this metal shiny thing which looked like a broard sword coming out off the light and into my eye, it was a syringe needle he was useing to dig out the rust, which came out in one. he let me see it with me on the other end of the machine for a change. got to go back next week some time just to see if the skin has healed ok 5 min job.

looking at your link and also noticed this:

looks like one of those nose bags thay use for feeding horses on the move, save on time if you could put your sandwiches in it.

are you sure it was a syringe needle ?
never heard of that before they used an instrument specifically for the job when i went

i dont think i saw him move the rust lump from sst to the needle, just to examine it.

I used to fettle inside large castings and sparks used to rattle around your head constantly so i was forever catching sparks in the eyes. Some A&E doctors do use hypodermic needles to pick out bits from your eyes, bloody hurts! Worst one I had though I went to the eye clinc in Northampton General Hospital they broke the splinter in the eye so nothing was protuding from the surface of the lens so they decided to shave the eye! everything went blurry for weeks afterwards while it healed. Since then I take them out myself with a cigarette paper folded and rolled into a point dampended on the tip and rubbed over the splinter, the damp paper catches the splinter and pulls it out, job done.

After 8 weeks of on and off irritation from a bit grit in my eye (the reason I upgraded my crappy safety specs to a full face shield) I finally went to the hospital today to have it checked out. A quick eye test, then she used a magnifying machine type thingy. She found the culprit on the surface of my cornea. An eye drop anesthetic and a little flick and she got it out. Easy Peasy!

She was surprised that there was no rust ring, so I presume it was a bit of fibrous material from the flap disc rather that a metal filing.

From walking into the hospital, to walking back out.....30 minutes!

I know....8 weeks! Every time the irritation went, I thought great its dislodged itself, only to find it irritating again a few days later.

i had a bit of grit in the eye, came off a bucket i was blowing off with an airline didn't think to wear goggels for that.

thought it had come out but later that week it started bugging me and eye was abit sore, thougth nothing of it jumped into the car to go home first car i met with there lights on my eye hurt like hell and waterd like crazy.

car lost it's undertray on a detour through the hedge and i ended up with a week in eye casualty every day then 3 visits over the following week.

infection burowing into the eye not pleasant they said if it had penitrated they eye i would have been big problems

im guessing the grit got round to the back of your eye, were it scrapped the skin away allowing infection in, so the first signs of that would be eye becoming sensitive to light.

how did they get the grit out.
