metal cutting circular saw

I'm after one,dont mind it being 240v or 110v or battery(pref towards makita LXT battery as i have quite a few) or 2nd hand
What would you guys recommend?
I've a job i've been asked to do and thats cut a sheet of 6mm(approx) 4mx5m(approx) and its on the floor covering a hole/s,plus its rusty as hell
I cant use a grinder of any sorts,H&S bod there says no no no,to sparky sparky,yes i know these saws can chuck out hot chips but hes fine with that as its outside,this is at a saw mill after all
I need straight clean cuts as the offcuts are for another project they have there
So,what we looking at chaps,whats out there,oh and yes,i have many years ago used a normal wood cutting one with one of those this will cut anything blade,absolute bloody disaster

evolution seems to be the way forward for this sort of stuff though

as for straight cuts, thats down to your ability...i always clamp or tack a straight edge in place as a guide ...if you can't clamp or tack then some angle iron with a few concrete blocks to pin it down

Makita 4131 cold cut saw. They ain't cheap but they are considered "not hot works" and they capture all the chips in the guard.

I have a Clarke Contractor 240v one which has had very little use if you're interested? Not sure of a price yet but it certainly won't be overpriced to a long-term forum member such as yourself..

Thanks for the tips,but i'll stick to good old fashion snapping a chalk line between two points,works for me as it did for the Romans Egyptians

When using a cold cut saw, be careful not to trap the blade or it can be ruined (at considerable expense) quickly. That means supporting both sides of the cut and perhaps adding a wedge as soon as the back of the blade passes the edge of the material.

As above, IMHO, Evolution stuff is over-rated.

You would find a Makita one second hand and it would be better than a cheaper brand. They are expensive because wood cutting saws outsell them probably 20:1. Capitalism works on supply and demand.

it's never irrelevant, safety is everyones issue and to me hot swarf could be a completely different hazard to sparks and as such carries a different risk. always question safety requirements that seem odd, if for nothing else than to understand better.

I bought the biggest metal circ saw they make....
Faultless.
I just use it on the stock pile to rought cut to length.....
usually 250x8mm plate....

From how I read it, he isn’t after a cold cut saw, rather an actual circular saw to do long cuts on a piece of 5mm plate. Can’t say as I’ve come across anything of that Ilk. It’ll be a slow job I would imagine. I’d be looking at a real heavy duty nibbler, or a day of your life and a pile of jigsaw blades, or a recip saw.

I’ve used a recip saw with carbide blades for cutting steel, nothing like that amount though, but it’s suprising how well they cut. The standard HS blades don’t last long, but carbide, although expensive, just go on & on

I have one here that I used pre plasma days, they will rip through 6mm plate really quickly. Noisy as hell though and the blades dull off quite quickly.

For getting round the hotworks rule though, worth those trade-offs.
