Ah great I was hoping some one knew what was used.. I will have a look around but I think I have a 2 morse reamer so I might be able to sort one. I cant afford to knacker it up and end up with nothing though

i cant realy say. mine has a jacobs chuck taper on the end of the spindle and the chuck had worn so i tapped it off with a drift and hammer and got a virtualy new one of ebay for a tenner. the chuck taper is stamped on the chuck

By turning the bottom ring toward the chuck it presses off the chuck from
the taper.
It's NOT a morse taper it was a special angle made to mate with the Jacobs
chuck inside taper minus a quarter of a degree.
I know because I actually *Made* them at Startrite when they were in
Gillingham in Waterside Lane.
I was their only centre lathe turner and I produced these by the thousand on
a copy lathe.
17 mins to do the job, made a template from an original spindle, set up,
production from straight bar with a centre in each end was 6 mins. 2 cuts, 1
rough, 1 finishing.
Sent to grinding for the taper finish andthen to milling for the splines.
Made shed loads of bonus on that little number ;-)

Whilst its great info its not totally obvious if a morse can be used. I read it as it cant though because it just pushed the chuck itself of without a tang/taper. It also does not say how to refit. I am guessing a soft hammer. Most keyless cheap chucks seem to come with a morse or R8 etc taper.
That said IF I can get a large capacity keyless check with a jacobs taper I could used a parallel to 2 morse taper as a carrier. Not that it would increase my capacity/drill holding power but it would allow the use of morse taper drills.

i have one by the time u fit it and then the morse taper drill it will stick down 2 far and u wont have the table height to fit some jobs in taper drills are realy only needed above half inch

I was starting to get my head round it. I had thought a jacobs taer was a jacobs taper but this is great.

it should be stamped on your existing chuck which one it is it was on mine

Just took a look at mine and the chuck is marked as "33 TAPER". It's a floor standing model and not with the 10 speeds (just the pulleys)
I just took mine of as well is says 33. So as I guessed they are fitted with 33's and its the only one I cant get from Chronos in a 1 to 16mm quick change version lol
Came off a lot easier than I thought!

go look on ebay u can get jacobs chuck repair kits cheap .there easy to fit
I was actually hoping to replace the original chuck with a keyless 0 to 16mm one mate...
But I cant find any in the Uk on ebay though. I do have 5 or 6 other chucks for the lathe I need to look at one day.
