This 2003 Sprinter does not have ABS.....
Mmmm........ I've been doing some reading up on this....... seems to be a very common 'fault' with this model and MOT testers saying 'they all do that'. The MOT never mentioned the pedal going down, but said rear brakes were unbalanced.
We have checked both sides and they have almost new discs and pads, no air in the pipes, and brakes seem to be fine?? Handbrake was binding but we have re-adjusted that and it's now perfect. Pedal is rock hard with engine off...no vacuum assist.....if you press the pedal for a long time with engine running it does very slowly sink but this is not what you do when driving!
I've had this campervan for 7 months ........ bought it just before lockdown.........only mileage I've done was down to the MOT and back (about 6 miles) and I never had any problem with the brakes!! It still has an MOT until end of July (only 700 miles since last one) and only reason I got an early one is that we have decided to sell it and thought it a good selling point to have a new MOT.
Now that I've checked everything brakewise I might just put it in for a retest..... I don't feel there is a problem with the brakes..... and I certainly don't want to cause more problems by damaging the pipes!!
