Men in sheds even made it In to Terry Pratchetts final book.
There is a men's shed not far from where I live, but it's woodwork,
I was thinking of starting my own, once I get around to building the shed.
I was looking at that on the website and was wondering about popping over there next year to have a look. The one near me (Rayleigh) charges £15 a year subs and £2 each session. They do have some good equipment so its good value.
Not just today im 35 and never saw a piece of metal on school barely saw any wood thankfully my father was a jack of all trades and it rubbed offMetal work should be more of a thing! Youngsters of today just don't get exposed to it due to H&S.
If that's expensive, Hackspace,Is a lot dearer. I think it was £25 a month! My uncle joined one but the cost put him off.
Are they only in Scotland??I must certainly am.
.
.My local one.
Best thing I did last year.
Nothing round here then
Start one! Your local council will have one or more staff whose job it is to help voluntary/community groups like Mens' Sheds with filling in forms, applying for grants, finding space for a workshop etc. It's one council function that often does actually work as the outcomes are easily measurable, always make good copy in press releases and there's nothing councils like better or are more skilled at than spending other peoples' money(or in this case helping you spend other peoples' money).Nothing round here then
Cheers anyway.
only open on a Wednesday and only for men over 55. Reading the blurb it seems to be only wood work and sounds like they spend their time turning scrap wood into planters for the local council. More like a prison work party, not like the set up @The_Yellow_Ardvark enjoys, if I was inclined to join any local groups it would be SMEE https://www.sm-ee.co.uk/ but I can not see me fitting in with that crowd either. The award-winning Men in Sheds project, which provides a meeting place and workshop to men over the age of 55, have opened a shed in Penge.
