I find that more often than not it's quite uncomfortable and a little depressing rather than wonderful.Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Not sure how to PM on this forum. I have parts of the clutch , the inner primary case is there, along with the kick start shaft, the other parts are missing. my email is owend.ddsl@gmail.comAha, yes, no problem, you will be looking for a clutch, inner primary case, engine sprocket, gearbox end cover, KS shaft, the dynamo / distributor will be quite hard to find though, not fitted to anything else, well in fact everything except the KS shaft is unique to a Hawk,
send me a PM,
The thick chrome trim indicates a 1933-34 model, would probably have had screw on "M" rather than just the chrome showing through the paint, Mates late Hawk, my Arrow,Sadly, no. I have no records or photos at all. I can't even remember if it had a log book. I was just a feckless youth back then .
I do remember that the gear change gate was a home made one and the mudguards had a thick chrome trim around them that was not correct (?).
It was not the only one I let slip through my fingers, I bought a complete running 250 Panther of about 1934 vintage for £5 and a 1935 Morris E series for free. Both sold on.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
I have spoken to Sid many times, sold him the twin port heads for his second OHV V twin, I have three model X's a 1929 blind head version, a 35X4 project and a part finished 1939X, his 1914 model 8 can be seen to the right of shot, same model as my MGC bike,
i know a man with 16...yes 16 D1 bantams all stunning with a few in different configurations and he had one their that he had just "got in" barn find but started so would have done me for a first classic and he paid £200 for it would he buggery sell it even when i offered him 6!Its not that long ago. Bsa Bantams and ex-army M20's could be had for the asking, but classics have shot up in price over the past 10-15 years. Personally i think its a bubble ripe for the popping. I keep an eye on Andy Tiernan and a few other dealers on youtube and in the classic magazines. They wouldn't be looking for such big prices if they were not getting them surely ?
A guy I have helped with some parts, (1) MATCHLESS SILVER HAWK Gearing update - YouTube
I have a couple of them, View attachment 321498View attachment 321499
I have seen restored Arrows sell for less than £15,000 recently so may be over priced, not something you see every day though!
I took my first Hawk to a rally in Scotland, rained the whole time!
