The old 600 series both mobile and base station variants. Manchester bus had a load of them, they were the ones using 107 and 140 MHz, had extra boxes on them for selcall DZVEI if the memory is correct, twin antenna systems on the top of double deckers.

Yes already starting to see them and have a system or two in, with a handset which is both WIFI and GSM. There have been the wifi ones out for a while from the likes of icom and others. Motorola Wave. and tait using both IOS and Android apps. Everything is going server based generally hosted by others such as Amazon and the likes.

I am trying to learn Linux server stuff, scripting and all the rest but think I am to old for it to stick in the head. I have been trying for years now, some basic stuff I can do but most of it i need books and days to do, bit like the GPS stuff, tring to get it to run as a service rather than manually execute is starting to be an argument between me and tech help..

I think tomorrow is back in the garage work with my hands.

I never worked on the Marconi ones the rest yes. and others.

Memories of actual things you could hold in the hand without a magnifying glass. the olympics had issues with the solder griplets and daughter boards, but we need a few of these in there as well

The earliest i worked on. I was 4 when they stopped production, but there was still some in service around Manchester around 1979

I had one of these converted to 2 metres The Linesman

the very old Vanguard or was it Ranger? had power cables like welding cables.

And a later model I began to hate the MF5AM Motafone

My mate who is a radio Ham got 2 Strumech towers one wind up and one that folded from an industrial estate, He was delivering and asked what they were for as they had nothing conected to them and they said if you want them come and take them out the way, Only one was fitted and it was taking up a parking space, Thats what you need in life...more freebies.

We still have customers with them, you check them each year still working & in speck a couple of customers have the 600 both bomb proof literally.
Did you work on the 6000 mobile, we were renting over 500 mobiles at one time all low band bases were either Storno or MR a mix of mobiles Tait & Storno the 6000 was a beast to program with so meany options.
We got out of that market just in time

We had the stornophone radio sets in the train cabs as part of the NRN radio phone system. Absolutely horrendous things to use and you had to change area codes when crossing the border at Gretna Junction. The GSM based system that replaced it a million miles better, but still has some black spots occasionally.

Loved 5tone DZVEI the 970Hz was a pain for other radios other than Storno we always tried to sell individual call & Auto Acc
I worked on most of those old units except the Marconi were Securicor one of the big users
@gav0994 there was a Bus \ coach system as well
Those PTT over Cel are relatively cheap to buy & run + for a small extra cost tracking real time, unlimited calls within group, international as well, though at what cost after BX ?
