LUXURY This is what we were issued with for drilling brick when I first started, if you put any pressure on them they jammed up so mainly used a brace and bit which took ages especially in Accrington brick if you couldn't drill the joint. When I advanced to a rawl plugging tool it saved me ages so long as it was in a joint. Kids today don't know their born

on the more secure, fix and forget jobs I have used the epoxy glue and studding quite a lot.......

I'm waiting for some one to tell me they are made from the most nasty mix of 60's chemicals available.
To include asbestos, lead, mercury and Satan's underarm hair

they wernt but you could get a tinfull of asbestos phillplug . you just wet it and pushed it in to the hole and put your screws in me dad used to use it at work

...You can't pull masonry nails out and have to grind them off. They wont bend over, they will just snap, leaving part of it protruding sharply.

Exactly. Previous house owner had presumably nailed some kind of trellis to the back wall at some point and I was left with around 50 of these things, either fully formed or snapped and razor sharp.
I ground them all off.

Concrete screws seem to work but just cant well you know

When the new 18th edition regs come in next year, Regulation 521.10.202 has been updated and now requires cables to be adequately supported against their premature collapse in the event of a fire. This now applies throughout the installation and not just in escape routes.

This will mean the use of metal ties, clips and fixings in place of plastic.
It wont be a huge problem in an industrial environment but i am glad i do not do anything electrical in a domestic environment.

surface cables will have to be fitted in plastic trunking with metal safety clips or go back to the crappy pins and metal clipsgod who thinks them up . yes can go along with stuff dropping of the ceiling but it can hardly fall off the wall and hinder entrance in a fire . the safety clips work out at about 40 pence each I think

I used to use these to hold bookcases to the walls in the shop.
7mm (iirc) straight through the wooden brace (built into the back of the bookcase) into the brick, then run them in with the cordless driver.
much easier than trying to get 4mm screwholes lined up with 7mm rawlplug holes, and moving the bookcases in-between. (6ftx6ft and weighed about 40 or 50kgs)

I use frame fixers quite a lot, only one hole to drill right through everything, fixer into hole, tighten with cordless drill, job done. If you want it to look neater countersink the hole slightly to let the plug sit in.

Some people just bang the screw in with a hammer but the screw pulls in better if you use a screwdriver.

Yeah,masonry screws are very useful, but you must use the right drill bit..... Masonry nails are best. avoided in my opinion...

My old dad is a huge fan. They were cutting edge tech in the late sixties. We call them steel nails and the older version of them were actually usable. The modern version is terrible. Red plugs (good) for light, masonry screws for heavy.
